Murray says that Nadal absence changes nothing at the 2012 US Open

Murray needs to beat 2 of the top 3 to win the tournament and currently, Federer and Djokovic on (faster) HC are more of a threat than Nadal. It's not rocket science...

There you go.
One short efficient sentence says it all.
Enough said.

What is the big deal? He's right, it doesn't change anything for him. They would have been in opposite halves of the draw anyway and he has to beat 2 of the top 3 to win either way, never all 3, with or without Rafa. I think what he meant was that he would have to play his BEST Tennis to beat anyone of those 3.

Besides, Rafa is the only one he has has actually beaten in a slam. 2-1 for Murray in HC slams. ;)

It's 2-2 mate. Murray lost to Rafa in 5 at the AO 2007. That said, Murray has as many slam wins over Nadal as Roger has.

Back on topic - the wailing and gnashing of teeth on this thread are hilarious!

That's true. Totally slipped my mind. Thanks!

Aside from Federer, most top players have to deal with early round upsets in their careers. That said, even though Nadal lost to Rosol, he deserves a lot of credit for his consistency at the USO and Wimbledon, surfaces that are not his best. Nadal has made at least the SFs of the USO since 2008.

Murray can certainly relate. He was the heavy favorite against Cilic and Wawrinka in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Which just proves my point further. There are no certainties in sport.

but of course. how dare that scotsman with crooked teeth speak so vile of San Rafael de Los Calzones Del Orto? San Rafael is needed like the rain in the forest or the sand in the beaches...

It's a well known fact that San Rafael's presence make the flowers blossom in the winter and the bird's do their "dances"!

Viva La San Rafael...

No worries. If it helps, you can always say that since enterting the top 5, Murray is 5-3 v Rafa on hardcourts and 2-1 in hardcourt slams ;)

Wasn't Murray seeded 6th when he won that USO match?

But yeah, I think his break-through year was 2008, so I tend to ignore the things that happened before that. Although BabyMurray did give Fed a good run for his money in 2006... And 2-2 is still not a negative record. Roger can't say the same for himself when it comes to HC slam matches vs Nadal.

Murray has stirred the wrath of holy conquistadors who in Gods name and will shall slaughter all disobedient, rebellious Scotsmen.

Murray says that Nadal absence changes nothing at the 2012 US Open. I can't believe it.

It's obvious isn't it? nothing would change for Murray whether Nadal is there or not. Because Murray never win in GS finals against Fed nor Djokovic. And, Murray never succeed in GS finals.

Things would change for Murray if Roger, Rafa, and Novak are absence in 2012 US Open altogether. BIG change and chance for Murray.

I can't believe it. Murray won the gold medal against Federer that was completely destroyed by his match vs Delpo and now he things he is the super no.1.

Rafa won 10 slams, he kicked him 13 times, lost 5 (1 he retired at the Australian Open) and... his absence at the US does not make any difference for Murray.

"You cannot be serious!"

I think this US Open is going to be a huge reality check for him.

Nadal won 11 slams.

5 out of the last 6. ;)

Yup. Nadal's absence just means Federer doesn't have to face him in the semi-final. Though it does mean we don't get to have the last possible grand slam final pairing, Nadal vs Murray (Nadal would probably win though since he is 6-2 in slams against him).

Are you vying for a Pullitzer prize ? ;)

btw, I see what you did there..... The beach needs no more sand, it has enough. It's the desert that needs the rain, not the rain forest. But I don't expect the ************* to catch this.

Of course to Murray nothing changes, because he's gonna be either in Federer or Djokovic's half. Now if he is the top 2 seeds he wouldn't say that at all...

Well as the draw turned out, Nadal's withdrawal doesn't significantly change things for Murray assuming Fed can be still considered to be a comparatively tough opponent at USO and I think he is.
