My thoughts on Serena Williams

I have never been a fan of Serena but I never hated her. Recently I read Hardcourt Confidential. Pat Mcenroe was talking about Serena asking for help from the USTA and then bailing out on the Fed Cup. If has anybody noticed right after she lost her #1 ranking she announced her return again. Now she has cancelled this tournament. In my mind she is going to keep stalling tournaments until the Fed Cup and then claim she isn't ready and should be an alternate or just bail out completely. Ever since that foot fault incident she hasn't really shown that she cares about the sport as much as she used to anymore. Just my thoughts not really sure could anybody else give their insight on it.

Well she did get cheated against capriati. It was obvious. And that footfault at the worst time in a match. Who knows how much she cares about the game, but she must care to be still #1.. As far as watching her talk, it's pretty bad.. She acted better when she first started winning. Now she acts like she's the greatest.

Yeah I just feel she doesn't want to play anymore she doesn't have that desire she had when she first started winning, in my mind she'll retire within the next 3 years.

I do think her injury is legit, and so is her re-injury, but she may have extended her injury layoff longer, lets face it she has been injured a LOT over the years and is no spring chicken. Maybe she needs some time away from the tour, who knows? She has been on the tour long enough and likes her life outside of it, which is fine by me, and I think she would play a consistent schedule if she could (i.e 11-13 per year for her, not a Penetta like 25).

She has been on the tour regularly since 1997, she has earned to right to play as she chooses, so have other vets such as Venus, Kim, Dementieva, Henin, Schnyder, Schavone etc, they have payed their dues and should not be penalised for playing a lighter schedule if they choose.

The men get exempt from MS after a being on tour for an x-amount of years, so should the women.

They haven't had time for Fed Cup since 2007, the other girls like Oudin and Mattek-Sands have carried the load and gotten USA to the Final. The girls that got the USA there should play, NOT the Williams jumping in at the end to grab the glory.

When Venus Williams announced she wouldn't be playing anymore for the rest of the year, the writing was on the wall. It seemed only a matter of time before Serena would be canceling her schedule as well.

There is something brewing in Camp Williams and its not an October cauldron. Mother Marjorie would be very surprised if either sister makes it to the 2012 season.

With the ascent of Sweet Caroline, an unofficial change of the guard has occured. Its obvious that Serena and Venus can no longer keep up with the physical demands of the sport, which has been the cause of most of their injuries. Let's face it, they are getting very "old" in tennis years and near retirement. Nothing at this point coming from Serena and Venus would be of surprise. The drama has lost its sting.
