I don't think Moya is trying to "show" something. He has really been a great addition to the team. Rafa himself said that Moya brought positive energy to the team.
Reuters, Sept. 2017: ¤¤ World number one Rafa Nadal says the addition of compatriot Carlos Moya to his coaching team has added freshness and positive energy to the Spaniard’s training routine.
Moya, a former world number one, joined Nadal's team to work with his uncle Toni Nadal last December and has helped revitalise the 31-year-old's career.
"Carlos has been a great support. He came with excitement and also the belief that with a few things, I could improve my results. And it has helped," Nadal told Spanish newspaper El Espanol.
"It has been a breath of fresh air, positive energy. We have changed the way we practice and for Toni it has been also good." ¤¤

(y) to Carlos Moya!
I am not denying that Moya has brought something to the table, but not many people would give him credit for what he's done so he is making sure people are aware of the changes he's made. It's easy not to appreciate that, as Rafa was already very successful when Moya joined his team. I would do the same if I were in his shoes. Look how little recognition Roig gets. Most people don't even know his name let alone that he's helped Rafa win many titles. You have to blow your own trumpet sometimes.

Hmm. Moya has been praised for convincing Rafa to play more aggressively since he joined the Rafa team.

Foreign journalists don't know F. Roig obviously because his name was missing from Rafa's profile page (on the ATP website), when uncle Toni was Rafa's coach. Moya's name appeared on that profile page at once, when Moya joined the Rafa team. F.Roig's name was added to Rafa's profile page a year or so ago. I don't know why F.Roig's name was missing.

Geez, the guy just can't sit still. On Sunday he was so whipped he couldn't even dress himself and after a transatlantic plane trip he got home to Mallorca about 7:00 pm Monday night. The next day on Tuesday, he was out golfing at Son Severa, about an hour from Porto Cristo. Wednesday, he was back at work at the Academy shooting a commercial for KIA.

Now the guy is in Cannes for the Cannes Yacht Festival.

But the irony is, the more aggressively Rafa plays, the more it helps Federer....
Federer loves the pace, and doesn't like the spin and bounce :)

I think his defence isnt that good anymore. He has to play aggressively.I only take seriously what happened in 2017 AO final and Wimbledon semi. For me he blew his chances AO 2017 he did have his chances in that match. Wimbledon Fed played well but Rafa also underperformed in that match.

I really want that YE1!
You'll get that YE1, and you'll get it with absolute ease, as Rafa is 100% fit, and Djokovic needs to win everything just to be in contention (still would be on Rafa's racquet completely).
The world belongs to Rafa, and nobody else :)

Can you guarantee the WTF with that positive attitude or is that a stretch too far

Relaxing Time

September 13&14, 2019

Rafa is relaxing at the Yachting Festival in Cannes, France, this weekend. He has attended the festival, held annually in September, many times.

The Festival website: ¤¤ Since 1977, the Yachting Festival takes place every September in elegant, luxurious surroundings in the sparkling bay of Cannes.
As the first show in the boating season, the Yachting Festival is Europe’s leading in-water boating event. The major players in pleasure yachting come here to launch the show season by showcasing their new worldwide models. ¤¤

Lots of festival quests have posted photos of them posing with Rafa:

Rafa & Francis Lapp, the Founder and President of the Sunreef Yachts shipyard that are building a new customised yacht (Sunreef 80 catamaran) for Rafa:
Rafa & the sales manager of a yacht building company:
Rafa & the President of the Annex Beach restaurant:
Rafa & a journalist of an Italian lifestyle & culture magazine.

I remember that in a few interviews Moya always said: when we play practice matches Rafa always played aggresive and went for winners more than in an official match. i guees that is the point that Moya bring to the Nadal's camp

I think even a negative person would say Rafa is likely to finish #1.
Infinitely harder to guarantee Rafa winning London, and I will not, but he probably will :)

But he is only playing 2 more events. Novak can cut Rafa's lead to just 400 points now that he is playing in Asia. Rafa should have played Shanghai instead of Laver Cup.

Djokovic couldn't even finish the US Open and now the AO is a lock? :)
Also, Rafa will be twice as good at next year's AO, because he hardly trained for this year's AO, couldn't practice his defense after ankle surgery-
"......because of the things that happened to me in terms of surgery, then what happened in Abu Dhabi, I was not able to work that much the defensive game."

Im not as deluded a Nadal fan as you obviously are. Rafa has no chance against a decent Djokovic in Australia.

Claiming that an aging Rafa will be twice as good on his 34th year, is just stupid.

Id love him to win it as much as any other fan, but haven't you been watching his against Djokovic or Federer on HCs recently?

Rafa will be twice as good at 2020ao when compared to 2019ao, that is for certain, because this time he'll actually practice properly :)
".....Because of the things that happened to me in terms of surgery, then what happened in Abu Dhabi, I was not able to work that much the defensive game. I worked a lot on the offensive game, but not that much on the defensive game.
To play against a player like him, playing the way he played tonight, I needed that defensive game to finally have the chance to be offensive, no?"

And no need for the personal attack.

I don't understand why Rafa couldn't just play offensively against Djokovic. Why would he just give up because he could prepare his defensive game? Had he played offensively as he'd done throughout the tournament he would probably have #20 in his pocket now.

In order to face Djokovic, Nadal has to prepare both offensive game and defensive game. If offensive game doesn’t work, Nadal has to process defensive game.

In AU2019 final, Nadal had offensive game only. It didn’t work and Nadal had so much unforced errors. But he didn’t have “plan B” and collapsed easily.

It was the worst final of a Grand Slam he ever played, even worse than in his infamous match against Wawrinka.

Which was the first tournament Rafa wore sleevless in? I remember him wearing sleeves and normal shorts when he beat Moya in 2003 Hamburg and when he made his slam debut at Wimbledon the same year.

Remember 2010 and 2013 US Open Finals?
Did Rafa blast winners out of nowhere? Not even close.
Rafa constructed the points, and that included defense and patience, and that opened up the forehand-down-the-line :)
Djokovic covers the court so well, that Rafa can't blast winners out of nowhere (whereas he can easily blast winners out of nowhere vs. Tsitsipas).

But Rafa did that to Djokovic in Rome. Please don't tell me Djokovic was tired! Or that Rome is on clay.

And yet, it was the most impressive thing he's ever done, because he made the final of a Grand Slam without even being able to train for it.
In fact he won 18 sets in a row!
True genius, to be able to do that without your bread-and-butter :)

Rafa Congratulates

September 15, 2019

Rafa congratulates the Spanish national basketball team on winning the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup:

Rafa has had a good relationship with Pau Gasol, who played for the Spanish national basketball team from 2001 - 2017. Pau's younger brother Marc was a member of the winning team. P.Gasol has watched Rafa's matches from the stands multiple times. Last year, he said he had watched 8 of 11 Rafa's FO final matches from the stands.

Pau Gasol hugs Rafa after the 2012 FO final:

Djokovic had extra motivation to win that match because the entire time people were talking about how rafa was steamrolling and it looked like he was going to win it all. And djokers defense is/was on an entirely different level than the people rafa played up to the final.
