So Rafa needs to win 4 Clay titles to break the record this year ? He's playing MC, Barcelona, Rome, Madrid and FO........so, it's doable.

Improbable considering the competition with Djoker, Wawrinka and others who are all on his heels, but certainly doable. Here's hoping and praying for our Favorite Majestic Warrior to accomplish this Astonishing Feat.......

¤¤ NADAL STANDS ALONE ON CLAY
by ATP Staff | 08.04.2014

As ATP World Tour players turn their focus to clay, we look at the standouts on the surface according to the FedEx ATP Performance Zone.

When it comes to clay, Rafael Nadal is the undisputed king.

The Spaniard, who will be the top seed at next week's Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, far outdistances other greats, according to the FedEx ATP Win/Loss Index. The lefty boasts a stellar .934 winning percentage and 298-21 mark on the surface. Only two other players have a winning percentage over .800: Bjorn Borg (.863) and Ivan Lendl (.814). ¤¤

10 records held by Rafael Nadal that will likely never be broken

#10 Most singles titles won in a single season as a teenager

Aged 19, Rafael Nadal won a staggering 11 titles in 2005, including his first Grand Slam at the French Open. In doing so, Nadal became the teenager with most titles in a single season, beating Mats Wilander's previous record of 9 titles. Considering the fact that teen phenoms have almost become a thing of the past now with the added premium on physicality in recent years, this record seems safe for the foreseeable future.

#9 Best career match winning percentage

In what is a testament to Nadal's capabilities on all surfaces, he holds the record for the highest career match winning percentage. Nadal has an overall win-loss record of 679-132 which brings his win percentage to an impressive 83.72.

#8 Best winning percentage on clay in the Open Era

Nadal, considered the greatest clay courter of all time, has an astounding 298-21 win-loss record on the clay courts. That is a winning percentage of 93.42 on the surface. The man who can better this record has not been born yet, and probably will never be born.

#7 Highest winning percentage at the French Open

For a man who will, in all probability, be entering his 10th French Open this year, having a 59-1 win-loss record at the tournament is just pretty unbelievable. A win percentage of 98.33 at a Slam is pretty sure to stand the test of time (assuming, of course, he maintains this percentage for the rest of his career).

#6 Most number of ATP Masters titles

Despite being laid low by injuries multiple times in his career, Nadal has managed to win at least one ATP Masters 1000 title for nine years in a row now, for a staggering total of 26. It goes without saying that this is an all-time record; the next highest is Roger Federer with 21, and the Swiss is five years older than Nadal! Considering the stiff competition in Masters events, it is hard to see anyone reaching 26 (and counting) any time soon.

#5 Longest single-surface winning streak in the Open Era

Nadal won a mind-boggling 81 consecutive matches on clay between April 2005 and May 2007. That's unreal!

#4 Most number of titles at one Grand Slam

Nadal has won the French Open eight times, which is a record for most number of titles won at a single Grand Slam. Its hard to see how that record is going to get broken considering Nadal will probably have a shot at a couple of French Open titles in the future and considering that all-time greats like Roger Federer and Pete Sampras have not managed to win a single Slam more than seven times.

#3 Youngest to complete a career Grand Slam

By beating Novak Djokovic at the US Open in 2010, Nadal became only the fourth man in the Open Era to have completed a career Grand Slam. At age 24, Nadal also became the youngest to do so in the Open Era. And considering the 'aging' of the tour in recent years and the longer time taken for the development of players these days, this record looks incredibly hard to beat.

#2 Least number of Majors taken to complete career Grand Slam

Among players who have played their entire careers in the Open Era, Rafael Nadal has taken by far the least time to complete a career Grand Slam. Nadal completed his career Slam after 26 Slam appearances while Andre Agassi and Roger Federer did it in 41 and 46 Slam appearances respectively. Can't see this record being bettered any time soon at all.

#1 Most number of consecutive years winning at least 1 Major title

After bursting on to the ATP tour in 2004 and subsequently winning his first Major in 2005, Nadal has managed to win at least one Grand Slam title every year for nine years running. Naturally, this is an Open Era record, beating the previous record of eight consecutive years held by Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg. But what makes it scarier is that Nadal is still very much in his prime, which makes it likely that he will add at least a couple more years to the record. Now THAT would take some beating!

Rafa's records are truly varied and remarkable. All of Federer's 32 listed records on Wiki have to do with his slam titles. Every single one of them.

But slams are the most prestige and important to player's legacy. Records set at the slams are valued the most, just like Graf and Martina's records at the slams are the reason why they are #1 and #2 goat.

Federer has more than 32 records at the slams, and he has plenty records outside of the slams. Overall, Federer has the most tennis records in history.

Well slams is what pro tennis is about. If you buy into the idea of capitalism, it is pretty obvious because slam winners get the most prize money and publicly which translates into more endorsement money.

I think Rafa's most impressive record is the longest streak of winning a slam in a year. Another one they is not a real record but still very impressive is he was the only one who prevented the goat from getting 4 career slams and 2 CYGS. No I don't believe Rod Laver's 2 CYGS are same as 2 CYGS today, or even 1.

Seriously? You are giving that fan-made/non-existent "goat" award to Federer? The man has a 10-23 h2h vs Nadal, and 2-9 slam h2h vs Nadal. When Nadal and Federer meet its like man vs mouse.

As Sampras said, "Federer has to beat Nadal(if he wants) to be considered the greatest ever, certainly in my book."

So I don't think Nadal preventing Federer from winning CYGS is an "achievement", given how routine it is for Nadal to beat Federer at Roland Garros each year.

The greatest calendar-year achievement of all is Nadal being the only man ever to win slams on clay, grass and hardcourt in a calendar-year. Nobody did it before Nadal, and nobody may do it after Nadal for a long, long time. And for longevity, Nadal's 9 straight years of winning slams may become forever untouchable if he extends it to 11 or 12 years.

But most of Nadal's records are related to the clay surface.

I agree, but I'd much rather Nadal have predominantly clay records than the part-time surface of grass or the artificial surface of hardcourt (a surface without a slam event when Laver was making his legend).

Nadal also has the most jaw-dropping overall records.

Nadal has the most powerful calendar year record of any player since Laver (Nadal won slams on clay, grass and hardcourt in a calendar year). So that's not a "clay related record" and it supersedes anything anyone in today's game has done in a calendar year. And Nadal has the greatest slam longevity record of all-time because he's won slams for 9 years in a row (and ready for more).

Also you can call the 81 straight clay wins a "clay related record" and you can call the 8 Roland Garros titles a "clay related record" but you also have to call the 81 straight wins a "single-surface record" as nobody has won 81 straight on any other surface either. And the 8 Roland Garros titles a "grand slam record" as nobody has won more of a slam event.

And that is why he wants more clay courts and less hard courts.

Here's why Nadal would prefer more claycourts (if he does): Nadal is usually injured at the Australian Open.
2009 AO - body was killed in the Verdasco/Federer matches, ruined his year.
2010 AO - retired hurt in QF.
2011 AO - torn hamstring in QF.
2012 AO - body was killed in the 6 hour Final, ruined his year.
2014 AO - back injury.

Monte-Carlo 2010 was particularly historic because Nadal dropped just 14 games en route to winning the title, if I remember correctly.
Yes. To date, it's the least number of games ever dropped in a Masters 1000. He dropped on average less than 3 games per match

That 6-0, 6-1, victory in final is also the easiest victory ever in a Masters 1000 final.

That year, Rafa won all the clay Masters 1000 (Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome), which no other player has ever done, and he added Roland Garros to complete the first and only Clay Slam.

In 2013, he became the 3rd player in history to complete the North American Hardcourt Slam (Rogers Cup, Cincinnati and US Open) after Rafter in 1998 and Roddick in 2003 ;)
