I've never been a fan of ridiculously expensive watches, although I did notice the watch Nadal was wearing in the finals of the US Open Sunday, and thought it was kind of sharp.

I was listening to ESPN today, and they said that this was the same watch that Odell Beckham Jr. was wearing in the Browns football game Sunday, although the colors appear to be inverted. Because they were both wearing it on the same day, they were speculating that maybe there was some sort of financial endorsement deal at play. Supposedly the Richard Mille watch originally cost $135,000, but only 30 were made, so they are rare. I've read that the current value is anywhere from $190,000 to $350,000.

The watch has been in the news because the NFL has banned Odell from wearing the watch in any more games, citing a rule against "hard objects". It might be relatively safe to wear such a watch in a tennis match, but it sounds like madness to wear one in a football game. Beckham has said he will continue to wear the watch despite the ban. More drama to follow.
I just mention this because I didn't know that this watch, which has been getting so much attention in the news, was the same one Nadal was wearing.

Rafa is not the owner of the Richard Mille watches he is wearing. He is getting paid to wear them (= to test the shock resistance of the watches). The watches are made of high-tech materials and weigh little (he barely feels a watch on his wrist).

Rafa and R.Mille started to collaborate in 2009. Since then, R.Mille has released multiple special editions for Rafa: RM 027, RM 27-01, RM 27-02 and RM 27-03 (he's currently wearing). Here they are:

I like this watch Rafa wears. The rolex type watches gets stuck into clothings and makes my phone get marks on the screen when I look for it in my handbags. Better with the strap like that one. And I guess for the watch nerds Mille watches are the best on the marked, pure art.

Relax, it's just a joke.

I don't hate Rafa, he seems like a nice enough guy. I'm not really a fan (never liked clay court tennis that much), but if he wins the Slam count he deserves it, he's put in the work. Not only with training his body, but expanding his game. It's like the Patriots, I might not be happy they win, but on some level you have to respect it.
