NCAA eligibility and Sponsorships

Hi, does anybody know what the NCAA Clearinghouse rule is on sponsorships (such as free or discounted gear)? If a player were to get a small sponsorship (free or discounted gear only, not getting paid to use the stuff) would that make him ineligible? The clearinghouse does not say anything about this on their website. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thats no problem. My son just went thru the clearinghouse and he has sponsors.

There are regulations governing amateur status but sponsorships are excluded.

There's nothing about sponserships really, I think the only thing they can't do is directly pay you money.

Well, the rule is that no extra benefits are allowed, not limited to money.
Gear, however, is okay. As far as I know, college football players don't have to pay for their pads, jerseys, sneakers, helmets, etc. These things could get expensive.
Likewise, college tennis players are allowed to have free gears.

Our tennis team had a serious discussion about the NCAA eligibility and one thing that they really focus on is the players could not be paid in anyway in that sport... such as teaching lessons.
We do get sponsors... like adidas and fila .. I never had to pay for my equipments besides my racquet. Get free shirts, shoes, strings. I never really pay attention to these things... but i love free stuff : )
