I've been playing tennis for two years, and I started at December 2005 (three months before tennis season started). In freshman year, I was able to become a JV doubles #3 starter. In sophomore year, I was able to become the JV singles #1/Varsity doubles #3/singles #3. In junior year (this upcoming year), I will become a full-pledged Varsity starter. With the help of a couple of tennis sites (including this one) and having no help with coaches (except the school coaches), I've been able to get to the 3.5 ntrp level (self-rated) during the last two years. Now, I want to participate in some tournaments to see how good I've actually become.
I live in the SoCal area (North County/ San Diego area), and I need some assistance in order to participate in some entry-level/ranked tournaments. I know I need to sign up in the USTA website (and pay the dues) to participate some ranked tournaments (correct me if I'm wrong). Like I said, I am new to tournaments. Can anyone generous enough give me a small summary/lecture of the process? And also some suggestions of some tournaments to start me out because I do not want to go straight into a ranked tournament. I would gladly appreciate it.
