New Racket Time! - APDGT or PS GT?

Hi,

Would love any feedback from anyone who has compared the:

1. APD GT
2. Pure Storm GT

I've been an ardent fan of Pure Drives the last 8 years (played PD Teams and PD Cortex). I bought the PD GT, but the stiffness was just too much for me, so I sold it (even with VS Gut it felt too stiff). As much as I hate veering away from Pure Drive's - I know the time has now come (I have not tried the PDR GT, but know it is even stiffer than the PD GT according to the RA rating, but do wonder if the increased weight of the PDR GT counters the stiffness when playing).

I've demo'ed both the APD GT and PS GT, and found:

1. APD GT = Decent Blend of Power and Control - but I am not sure if it's
stiffness will eventually wear on my shoulder as well, and I don't want to
make another hasty purchase

2. Pure Storm GT = Good touch/feel, arm friendly, less power (& PoP on serve)

My Game is mainly a B'Liner and flattish hitter, with occasional Net approach, and I rely on a Big 1st serve (and a 2nd kicker) to battle the good guys at the club!

Thanks in Advance!

Definitely go for the Pure Storm. Especially since you're an aggressive flat hitter. Plus you have plenty of control, great feel, and an awesome racquet

I'd say pure storm (because you hit flat), and you could always lower the tension of the strings for more power/pop. Also the Aero Storm is basically a combination of these two rackets; it would make sense to try it out.

IMO You are not going to find the same pop on serves that you had with the pure drive. Since you are a baseline player with flat shots the Pure Storm is the better of the two. You will get nice control and feel. I would recommend the Aero Pro to someone who hits more spin. Plus out of the two the Pure storm is easier to modify and overall be easier on your arm.

APDGT (lots of power, little directional control) and PSGT (control but very little power) are very different racquets.

If you're a flattish hitter, APDGT isn't really ideal. It's very much a light spin racquet with the emphasis on allowing the player the generate alot of racquet head speed. The sweetspot feels bigger than the PD which might be good for spin, doesn't help with precision.

The PSGT whilst much better in terms of control feels insubstantial and underpowered. I'm not sure you're going to hit 'bit 1st serves' with this in stock form as it doesn't have much heft, or the stingbed power of the PD. It also doesn't mod well with lead. A word of warning - if you feel that you're getting arm problems because of the PD's stiffness, bear in mind that the PSGT is insubstantial feeling - your arm is going absording alot of the power from your opponents. You'd be better off looking at the PS Ltd or PS Tour if you like Babolats assuming of course you can handle the slightly higher weight.

Hmmmmmmm try the old Aero Drive Yellow Nadal

I am 56 4.0 USTA team tennis player and I am using the old version of the Aero Drive Nadal. I like it much better than the new gt version. Why? MORE FLEX. The new gt is just a Pure Drive. Look at the specs. Same stiffness, etc. The older model feels heavier and easier on my arm.
