NICK KYRGIOS sees Tennis as a job would rather play basketball...SHOULD HE RETIRE THIS YEAR? 2024?

C'mon bro what are you saying. It's Nadal on grass. Not his best surface and probably his worst. Against a player whose game is completely ideal for the surface, who was totally redlining and had beaten Rafa before, including at Wimbledon

If it would have been easy then Nadal would have played. He didn't play bc he didn't like his chances. If Nick is that much of a mug and really didn't have the game, Nadal would have played.
But how many years ago was that? 2014 was a pretty long time ago. Even back in 2022.

Nadal had beaten Nick at Wimbledon just three years prior.

If Nadal was afraid to lose to a player like Nick, then why wouldn't he have pulled out of the French Open in 2011 when he had to face Soderling?

He wasn't in good form at that event. Yet he still managed to beat Roger Federer in the finals.

… to mob and sit at the practice courts of an ATP 250?????
Why not? I mean they pay these "journalists" (if you can even call them that) to make up non-sense about Nick being a box office attraction or being the most popular player on the ATP tour.

Lame Horse is getting the royal treatment at Eurosports and you have to ask "why?" I do at least.

The guy has never won a slam, never won a masters, never won an Olympic medal, never won a World Tour Finals, Never played in a World Tour Final, and never been ranked inside of the top 10.

He is for all intensive purposes, a player that never achieved anything of significance.

Yet he is treated like royalty by the tennis media.

Is it Woke related? I believe it is.

If Nick were Vasek Pospisil, nobody would care.

That's a silly question with lots of answers.

1. Rafa was 24 not 35
2. Soderling is not "a player like Kyrgios" at all. Nick gave Nadal a lot of trouble whenever they played, and beat him in the Final of Acapulco in 2019.
3. In addition to the matchup issue, Kyrgios is just a jerk to Rafa when they play and made a PED implication after the Acapulco match. He's probably the last player on the tour Rafa wants to lose to.

Ratings, bruh

You see patterns in media and think they're an agenda being "pushed"

Whereas I have worked in the media for 20 years and understand that those patterns are the media chasing the public's eyeballs/attention span.

If you're mad at the "woke" then be mad at the consumer who would rather watch athletes of color with exciting personalities than guys like De Minaur and Ruud. Bc I think we've seen that the personalities at the top of these media companies are usually not woke at all.

Yup I never worked in the media. But I have done research on why certain events and players are covered more than others at least in he US sports media. These talk shows and tv programs are all about ratings. If talking about Aaron Rogers or Lebron James or whomever 24/7 gets the best ratings, thats all they are going to cover. Some dude in a sport that has less interest could do the most amazing thing and they might mention it. But the people who watch these programs dont care what some dude in some sport they dont care about does.

Yup. Even I've noticed this

Here's the big example that gets people really mad: the prevalence of interracial couples in TV commercials.

Why is it happening?

Women make the majority of the household purchasing decisions, and women think diversity is a positive thing. So we get lots of diversity in ads targeted at women. It's all about the dollar. The "woke agenda" couldn't be "pushed" if it didn't generate interest and make money.

I am far from being a Kyrgios fan, but can personally attest to him being a huge draw at every tournament I have attended when he played. His stadiums are packed, he plays on a lot of the bigger courts like the big stars and he has a lot of support from the crowd especially from younger fans. I get the impression he draws the casual fans who want drama and a spectacle which he provides in spades rather than tennis purists like me who complain about his lazy footwork and bad behavior.

Well, let's take a look at that.

1. Nick lost in the final to 35 year old Novak Djokovic.
2. Soderling was a far better player than Nick Kyrgios, who was actually ranked in the top 5 in the world. He's the only player to have beaten Nadal at the French Open when Rafa was in his prime.
3. Nick is a jerk to everyone. The guy has emotional issues and is prone to self-destructing like he did in the final.

If you were Rafa, who would you rather face? A player like Alcaraz, who is committed from the moment that he steps on the court or a guy like Nick who routinely beats himself?

I know who I would rather face.

So government kick-backs for demonstrating equality have nothing to do with it right? ;)

That's why Nike, Puma, and Adidas do it.

It has nothing to do with what their consumers want.

Nike and Adidas are about as woke as you can get. So is ESPN.

Novak is the best player in history no?

35yo Novak > 36yo Nadal by a wide margin, especially on Wimbledon grass where Novak will end with 10+ titles

The history between Nadal and Kyrgios is unique. Nick was the only guy who didn't lay down for Nadal and I respected that a lot. So yeah they didn't like each other and Rafa did not want to lose to a clown who would belittle him on court as the match was happening

ESPN?

Now you're talking crazy.

Jimmy Pitaro took over from John Skipper years ago and immediately said "no more politics" and got rid of Jemele Hill, and sharply curbed all the woke stuff. That was a few years ago now.

But they didn't seem to have a problem with politics when Pat McAfee and Aaron Rodgers did "Infowars Lite"

"Woke" is being pushed out. It's not winning. Musk showed that the appetite for racism and bigotry is as strong as ever, you just have to give people permission and the horse will leave the barn on its own

Where is racism prevalent?

Also, why would Nadal be afraid of the guy that he clobbered at Wimbledon just three years earlier?

You go on Twitter much?

I'm strongly presuming we have very different definitions of what racism and bigotry are. And I don't want to derail this thread too much. You have an axe to grind with a lot of people and companies over this woke stuff and I like you a little too much to hear you "just asking questions" about the true death toll of the German all-inclusive resorts of the 1930s and 40s

kyrgios is a very prominent figure in the tennis world. despite not winning anything he has his own Funko doll

It’s a complete joke to compare Nastase — a great talent and great player who had a great career and the first player to reach #1 when the ATP established its new ranking system — with a serve-bot clown like Kyrgios, a mediocre talent that fluked one good win, over Vamos at W, long ago.

I mean I dont know you are probably right im sure you are. None of this stuff even bothers me. Lots of interracial couples out there. I was just more so commenting about how sports is covered in the USA. ESPN/ Fox basically with their talk shows everyday talk NFL 75 percent of the time. NBA 25 percent of the time. Depending on time of year. But more and more its almost just NFL. Because he people who watch those shows want to listen to that. These stations literally can track minute by minute who is tuning in and out for what segment. If some host tries to talk about hockey or good lord tennis the research shows people just switch channels.

So with the big networks they just talk about what gives them ratings. The other sports, whether its baseball or hockey or soccer or tennis or golf all have their own networks now a days anyway. Although Espn does have its own daily soccer show now, which I think is one ESPN plus. So their seems to be growth there. But you won't ever catch any of these talk show hosts talk about tennis. I mean maybe if an American wins a slam but even then its like hey he or she won. Back to the latest Aaron Rogers controversy.

He should have retired after he reached the 2021 Wimbledon final. I know that for sure, and I don't admit any discrepancy.

ALCARAZWON

Professional
Kyrgios has more tennis opinions, and speaks more about tennis, than any other current professional tennis player.
No surprise he's already gone into tennis commentary too.
Tennis overwhelms him so much he's scared of the pressure it creates, and deflects it by faking an interest in basketball (unconvincingly, as he tweets mostly about tennis).
Imagine being a professional tennis player, and playing tennis matches, doing tennis interviews, practicing tennis, and then getting on your computer or phone and tweeting about tennis...

Norrie also won the first set against Novak. Berrettini too
Novak and his irritating ass comebacks :p
But I meant in the sense that up until the second set of that final, he'd never lost a set against Novak. Even if it was a subpar Novak he beat in those first 2 meetings, Novak had to mentally feel SOMETHING after losing that set and knowing that.

I think he knew those were just fluke wins, IMO
