Nike expands Osaka line

LMAO, imagine trying to sell a line of clothes that literally just says “NO” on it. That being said, will they be available in men’s? :p
Only you find it funny, kid. Lol
Yes, mostly everything will be unisex. The hoodie is a day one cop and so will be the polo.

nothing against her but companies are literally giving everyone their own line now. I heard genie bouchard line is out in 2022... I mean now that she is qualifying for main draw events again its only right since everyone will see it

That orange beanie has me salivating, and the hoodie is growing on me. Can’t wait to see the full line.

Where did you hear about a Genie Bouchard line for 2022? If so, it weird to see her having a line before Sloane Stephens, but Genie has a bigger marketing value similar to Pova.

Osaka's brand value is peaking after her USO win and activism during the tournament. She's a 3-time major champ with potential for many more if she continues with the form that's taken her to this point.
Not sure I quite like the NO logo, but I quite like the orange/green clash and the flags are a nice touch also.

Osaka seems like a marketer’s dream to me. Nike execs were probably chomping at the bit to break quarantine and get back into the studio after she won USO.

Nike's marketing used to be subtle in the sense that it created a story that fits the personality that they created.

What I see with that "line" is that they are trying so "hard" to tie her to the people of colour, that they use the laziest way possible by dressing her like a BB player. Shorts, hoodie, and whatever the ugly camo thing is. Add the extensions that many dark-skinned people like, but she never wore previously, and one knows how their designers don't even try anymore. Or is it a matter of just throwing their "fans" anything in the knowledge that they will take it gladly?

Oh, and BTW, what is that blob on the clothes? Her "logo" or they got stained while transporting them for the photoshoot?

Young people will eat this up. This is how streetwear looks. I personally have no problem with the pieces themselves.

Yes that’s her logo. Very bland, but I’m sure she was part of the design process. Not as iconic as Fed’s or even Rafa’s, but I’m sure it will grow with younger players. Serena has a logo too, but isn’t used as much, same can go for Pova.

It is the time for sport companies to be SJW! But what I find that people who are in that mindset do not participate in sports activities or even workout! We will see how Nike stock perform in the next year or two!

Sports companies mainly cater for adolescent machismo, so some changes to this formula are welcome. Just do it!

Japanese are conservative dressers! Only a few are who are artist, musicians and celebrities dress colorful and trendy!

Well spoken, well mannered, articulate, multi cultural- three Slams with surely more to go. HUGE upside. Love the minimalist logo.

Osaka is the right, positive athlete for this era, whether one plays/watches sports or not. She is on the right side of history and a growing force in tennis. Win/win for Nike.

Will she donate all her royalty to BLM or some other foundation? Because otherwise it will look like she cashed on them.

Errrr she'll do what she wants with her money. How has she cashed in on BLM? She's supported the cause and raised its profile if anything. It's not like she is selling merchandise with their logo on without permission...

What do you mean she's on the right side of history?
Basically, in 50 years' time she will be looked back on as a vocal advocate for positive change. Those 7 masks at the USO this year was iconic enough in itself but then winning the damn whole event and letting the 'all lives matter' squad lick their wounds was classic.

I’m an Osaka fan and just like everything she says and does, I don’t always agree. I know fashion is more than a serious hobby for her and although this line might not appeal to some, it will sell! She’s in her prime as a tennis player. Nike and Osaka should capitalize on her success. I noticed she’s brought her sister into the project as well.

Yikes.

I guarantee this line was not targeted at the average "TW poster" demographic.

I also think that the same people who think this collaboration is too fashion forward probably had no problem with the Agassi inspired outfits Nike released this year. Just like the old hats dissed Agassi for wearing hot lava in 1990, people are going to diss Nike for this now.

And Osaka has worn braids before. A quick Google Search would suffice to demonstrate that.

You are correct: it is aimed at the street bro x Nike collector, and very few people on TTW fit into that description.
