Not Familiar with my new Pure Drive Roddick Plus

Hi,

I bought a PDR+ recently and I can't seem to play and hit as usual. All of my previous racket are all head heavy and near to balance. The PDR+ is a head light racquet.

I'm a power baseliner and a hard hitter. Only goes to net when my opponent gives a short ball and I'll attack/shoot it deep and then I'll run to the net to give him or her more pressure.

My previous racquets are Prince Force 3 Titanium, Prince 03 White and Head Liquidmetal 8. My Head racquet have a big headsize, 112, since the pdr+ have a smaller headsize, I have trouble hitting with it.

I asked my friend to try my pdr+ and he said that the racquet demand more power. I agree with him as my Head racquet is oversize and quite powerful. He advised me to bring the racquet back to shop and sell it or put lead tape around the frame.

 Must I really put lead tape around the frame? I am quite worried that after I put the lead tape around it I can't take them out again.

 Or should I practice with the racquet again and again so that I will be more familiar with it?

 By the way is it true that head light racquet demand more power than a head heavy racquet and that a head light racquet is more suited for players who goes to the net rather than baseliner?

 Or give me your opinion anyone?

Thanks.

I also used to use head heavy racquets. But now ive changed to the Pure Drive Cortex, and at the beginning i felt really bad because i thought i just wasted $300 on a racquet i couldnt use properly. After about a couple of days, it felt like the best thing in the world, although it had a little less power than my previous racquet. Trust me, once you change from a head heavy granny racquet(oversize) to a midplus or a mid, you cant go back. You may get more power from it, but the control becomes more important as you get better.

I'll try it then.

I think you have to be very patient re Babolat frames. For me, this entirely relates to the characteristic stiffness, power and - some would say - control and lack of therein. Give it some time (and it's definitely more like months as opposed to weeks.) IMO Babs are a very different proposition to the rest.

thats a gd point ross. i know a few gd players who took quite a while to adjust to the pure drives and now love them and wont change for anything. defo takes time.

also, give it a bit of time, then maybe add 3g at 3 and 9, see how that works. also, with a longer frame, the timing takes time to get used to.

The PDR+ is great. I noticed when I switched that everything landed a little deeper in the court than I was used to before. This has helped me. The head light balance should allow you to take a quicker cut through the air, generating some spin and driving the ball. Stick with it.

It is a stiffer racquet and that means it will be less forgiving and some of the shots might come out more boardy...I think.

My 2nd day of playing with the pdr+ is amazing. I think I'm used to the racket already. My shots were all getting back to normal and my 1HBH and serve improved a lot!

Topspin is good with this racquet also defensive backhand slice. I don't think I'll be switching to another brand or different racquet. Proabably I'll buy another pdr+ as a backup racquet.
