I have recently added to my small collection, and thought I would review the racquet after the first 3 hour session. If things drastically change after a few weeks of playing, I will revise with a new review.
Design & Comfort 9.5/10
This racquet has a very classy look. The red and white combo with just enough black and silver really creates an "all-business" appearance. Despite the negative talk about the quality of Wilson frames, this racquet oozes quality. The leather grip is very durable and comfortable (if you like leather). The shape of Wilson grips are definitely one of my all time favorites, very easy to feel where you are on the handle.
Overall - One of the nicest looking frames ever created in my opinion. I am a huge fan of leather grips from the factory, saves me from having to wrap my own.
Groundstrokes 8.5/10
I am very impressed with the playability of this racquet. My forehands were heavier than ever, and I was able to control most points. The 12.4 ounces allowed me to take long, smooth strokes and let the racquet do the majority of the work. Occasionally, I would speed my swing up and rip winners down the line with pinpoint accuracy. The power level feels somewhere between my PS Tour 90 and my RDS001 MP. It didn't take much effort to keep my opponent pinned deep.
Once again, the accuracy stood out on my backhands. I found that the nSix-One suited my one-handed style better than any racquet I have tried. (That's right, even better than my beloved RDS)
The only negative I found on groundstrokes was the muted feel that I experienced when returning heavy serves. I assume this is due to the nCode technology. It did not affect my game, just was annoying.
Overall - Incredible from anywhere on the court. The weight will cause some to get tired sooner, but stay with it and let the racquet work for you. I left a little room for improvement on my score.
Volleys 7.5/10
Expected a lot more in this area. The racquet just didn't feel very maneuverable at the net. It played very similar to the PS Tour 90, but slightly better. When I was able to get the racquet head in the right place on volleys, the result was amazing. The placement was perfect. This is another place that the muted feel somewhat annoyed me.
Overall - Maybe some lead in the butt will make this racquet more maneuverable. I will let everyone know when I have time to experiment. I have yet to find a racquet that volleys better than the RDS001 MP.
Serves 8/10
I am very pleased with the serving ability of the nSix-One. Once I relaxed I was serving-up some serious flat bombs. The accuracy is astonishing! My second serve lacks the kick that I need, but was enough to be effective. Spin was decent, nothing like some of the others I have tried. I believe with a little more time, this could become one of my favorite serving sticks.
Overall - Really happy with my first serve, will take some tweaking to fix my second. Maybe the lead in the butt will improve this area as well.
Final Thought
I was expecting a lot less than what I got. I know that many will steer clear of the nSix-One due to the fear of being so demanding, but you need to give it a demo. The key is to let the weight of the racquet do the majority of the work, and let yourself concentrate on technique. This racquet is nowhere near as demanding as my PS Tour 90. I believe it falls between my RDS and my PS Tour, and that is exactly what I wanted. I am looking forward to hitting a kSix-One Tour when it comes out.
Total Score 8.4/10
