STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore Ryan Thacher has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Apr. 12-18, as announced by Commissioner Larry Scott.
The honor is the first of Thacher's career and second of the season for Stanford, as Bradley Klahn captured his fourth career honor back on Feb. 2.
Thacher led the No. 7 Cardinal (18-5, 5-1 Pac-10) to sweeps over Santa Clara and San Francisco, and a 6-1 victory over rival No. 13 California to clinch a share of the Pac-10 title. It's the first time Stanford has claimed the league hardware since being crowned co-champions with UCLA in 2006.
Playing in the No. 2 singles position for the matches against Santa Clara and California, Thacher defeated the Broncos' Kyle Dandan, 2-6, 7-6(3), 1-0, and the Golden Bears' No. 95 Christoffer Konigsfeldt, 6-2, 6-3. In his match against the Dons at the No. 1 singles position, Thacher beat Thai Tu in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Thacher has won five singles matches in a row and is 22-7 on the year and 18-4 in duals.
In doubles play, he teamed with Klahn for a pair of victories as the duo is now 33-6 overall and 15-3 in duals, good enough for a No. 2 national ranking.
