Pat Cash can be reasonable...

I have heard and read a lot of trash talk coming from Cash on these boards and never took
a shine to him when he was an ATP player.

However I just watched an interview he did recently (it looked like it was at his home)
and he comes across as very down-to-earth and reasonable in what he
was saying.

Context is everything and it is easy to catch a guy like Cash making an incendiary statement in the midst of an otherwise innocuous discussion. As someone who has been a Cash fan since the 1980s, I accept his foibles.

Why is he not in the HOF? Many other players with less credentials are in there.
How many Wimbledon champions did not get into the HOF? Just Cash and Krajicek, and they should both be in it.

In Cash's case it may be because he only won 6 singles titles with Wimbledon being the only biggie. Not sure about Krajicek (17 singles titles including Wimbledon and 2 Masters). There are some multiple Slam champions like Bruguera who have not yet been admitted.

I would put every Wimbledon winner into the HOF...that in itself is a career's worth of achievement at a high level.

Unfortunately, Pat never achieved the ATP #1 Ranking. (His highest Rank was #4). I imagine that worked against him.

Also, he has never really gotten on well with most of the best Australian players in the sport (Newcombe, Roche, Rafter, Hewitt) who hold a lot of influence internationally. That might work against him getting into the International HOF ... although that is pure speculation on my part.

The saddest thing about Pat's career ... he played in the last AO Final held at Kooyong TC on grass and he played in the first AO Final held at Flinders Park held on HC. If he had won both of them, he would have automatically become an Australian ATG.

He did. I believe his participation in Davis Cup campaigns is what endeared him the the general public in Australia.

In the past that was true, but S&V tennis is not complete or all court tennis. Clay is All Court Tennis, which somewhat eliminates servebots and power tennis.

Well easiest way to settle this ...

Have three categories in the Hall Of Fame!

Grass HOF.
Clay HOF.
Hard court HOF.

And then sub categories

AO HOF, RG HOF, W HOF, USO HOF

Then none of the ATGs get left out.

I did not mean to imply that only great clay court players are ATG players: Agassi, Sampras, Becker, Edbderg, Connors, etc.. were ATG players despite clay being their weakest surface.
