PCB on Nole injury today...

Djokovic gave Pablo a couple lines calls to make up for it 8-B

1-2 serving first point of the game, but it's the thought that counts, no?

Even PCB knows Djokovic and his "injuries" are nonsense.

I thought Pablo was being kind by calling it a mental thing. It's deliberate strategy.

Plus, if Djokovic gets to the final and loses against Nadal, he's got his ready made "injury" excuse. Helps take some of the pressure off Novak.

Exactly what Djokovic did not need. The narrative now will gather he play acts. More distractions for him.
Do not rule out him doing what he did v wawrinka at USO last year v Tsitispas.

Was about to create a thread...
PCB just said to Spanish media that "every time Djokovic gets complicated in a match he asks for MTO"
He continued "It doesn´t bother me at all and I think it´s a good sign. I knew this would happen because every time he gets tight he does this"."And if he did it ment I put him in trouble, he wasn´t comfortable and I managed to play at high level. That´s what made him doubt."
"He´s been doing it for a long time. I don´t know if it´s something cronicle or mental but whenever things are tight it´s there."

I tried to translate the best I could guys.

Sounds a bit salty that he wasn't good enough to beat Djokovic legitimately this time round. Frankly players that whine about their opponent faking it need to develop sufficient mental strength so as to block out what's happening on the other side of the net and focus on their own game. If they're unable to do that well that's on them, it's one of those things I have absolutely no sympathy for.

Or Djokovic could stop doing it and you could stop defending it. Just an idea

Be honest, you love the drama Djokovic provides you with. :giggle:

PCB isn't salty. He's just being analytical. He said in the full Spanish interview that this is something Djokovic has done for a long time. It's obviously something everyone in the locker room is aware of, and know to possibly expect from Novak if he's feeling tight in a match, or his opponent is redlining.

Those medical timeouts when things got tight during the 2019 Wimbledon Final were especially dubious, yes.

Also a commendable job by Novak's physio to sneak his way onto court and apply the tape to Novak's neck when things got bad in the first set. Because clearly the tape wasn't there prior to the start of the match.

He may just have been asked a question on Nole’s supposed injury and gave his opinion - that may be what happened - don’t now....I doubt he is being salty - I’d imagine he is well aware Nole is better player....

Djokovic lacks talent, and has no weapon, so the gamesmanship is very important.

If Federer was doing it, I wouldn't defend it. That's all I'm saying. Now we know it's not just TTW posters saying it. It's pro players too.
If I hadn't seen the video from earlier in the day(shown during the 1st set) of his neck being massaged I might be more inclined to believe he was being a little disingenuous but I did see it so I'm kinda leaning towards him being genuine.

Have PCB and others forgotten that Novak had neck issues during his first two matches at the ‘Cinci‘ Masters in NY last month? It looks like he is carrying a chronic injury. I suspect that he is taking heavy painkillers for every match and it might partly explain his over-emotional outbursts during the last few tournaments.

Djokovic is a perfectionist, so whenever something very tiny isn't going well, he will complain a lot more than Nadal or Federer would. That I think will end his career because he will fail to accept his slowed movement and reaction speed.

I thought in the beginning it might be legit myself. I'm on record with that. That maybe he just needed to warm up because it's cold. At the same time I don't see how someone pulls off the wins and shots that he does if he's truly in that much pain. I know you remember the match with RBA recently. The Cincy one. He received massages left and right. It's just getting old to a lot of folks. He's plenty good enough imo to win trophies without the injury drama.

Maybe so but this thread is more about what his opponent is saying....I am not sure what to make of it really....It just seems to happen a lot and PCB said words to this effect...
It is a massive statement and is a huge problem now for Djokovic. Just an added distraction now for him that will lessen his chances. Being called a faker as a pro hurts if from a fellow pro.

Obviously the Spanish players are onto him. He will have a very pumped up Nadal waiting for him. Wonder how much he will fancy that.

I put it down to age myself. None of these guys are getting any younger and it's only natural that you suffer from more aches and niggles as you get older. I think most people, certainly his detractors, just expect Djokovic as the best player in the world to play at a high level every match and physically be 100% at all times but sadly life doesn't work like that, especially when you're 33 with over 15 years and a thousand professional matches of mileage on your body.
