Periodic callibration?

Do all hand cranked and electronic string machines need periodic calibration?
Is it because they use some sort of spring? I have only used an older LasreFibre ML100 and assume no drop weight needs callibration. Am I correct?
Thanks
I just noticed I spelled calibration wrong

Any machine that uses a spring to determine its tension setting will require periodic calibration because springs lose their stiffness which impacts the tension setting.

Electric machines that have spring mechanisms will require recalibration, Electronic machines that have a load cell will not.

Provided they are in well operating order (no binding, etc) drop weights do not require calibration as gravity is constant and the length of the drop arm does not change due to lack of use or excessive use.

I wonder how much a change in elevation would affect the "constant" of gravity....

Edit: Looked it up. Insignificant.
