Amongst all the -est (who is the greatest, who would win, who is the Goat) threads, maybe some of you would like to discuss the topic of this thread: Players who have been bridges between generations.
With that I mean players who have been playing against the great of different generations and can come up with answers if the greats of the past are greater or less great than the greats and the good ones we have know.
In the men's game there aren't too many players left when Agassi left and in the women's game either. Still, with all the Sampras vs Federer talk, I would like to know how a female great like Steffi Graf would have fared against this generation. The bridge between her and the current players is I guess players like Capriati, Pierce and Hingis, three very good players who had great difficulties with Graf, but beat many of the current players (not counting the 1994 Pierce - Graf match, Pierce would have beaten Federer in that form). If a player like Pierce can still do damage in today's era, how would a healthy Graf do.
I know many will think about the backhand being weak, but most opponents didn't like the slice which was a nasty slice on grass and hardcourts.
Also the mental part, when I think of Graf and Seles I have never seen anyone being mentally though as those two. So I wonder how today's players would do against Graf in a 5 all situation in the final set.
Maybe I should have written this thread 2 years ago, when Capriati and Agassi were still playing so we could have looked for head to head of Sampras etc.
Still, I also want to be a professional poster, another reason for this thread.
