Polyfibre TCS, TCS Rapid & Scorpion?

Polyfibre TCS, TCS Rapid & Viper?

Anyone tried any or all of these? They all seem to be very similar and I am trying to figure out the differences between them. I would be interested in whcih has the most comfort especially. I know the TW guys rave about TCS, but these are just as many folks complaining that the tension maintenance is awful on TCS. I don't want to restring every few days.

I have been testing Hyperion lately and like it so far, but wanted to give one of these 3 a try and am not sure which to pick?

I've tried the first two, and I think I have a pack of Scorpion waiting to be strung.

I think the TCS is truly a unique string. It's quite comfortable and has a lot of feel. I tried the 17g and the tension maintenance was pretty bad. It was different each time I played. It was still a decent playing string, but I don't like it when the string plays differently each time out.

I didn't care for the Rapid as much. It had a little better tension maintenance and was still a soft playing string, but the feel was not quite as good and not as "special" as the TCS.

I think if I were to try the TCS again, I'd probably go with the 16g which should do a bit better in the tension maintenance department.

I will string up the scorpion next. Oh wait, I just realized Scorpion is Weiss Cannon. I actually have the PolyFibre Cobra sitting around. Nevermind.

Thanks. let us know how it plays!

I tried the TCS probably around 3-4 years ago and it i broke it within 5 hours of play.. For the 5 hours, I LOVED the string but I hate stringing so I moved on when I was experimenting. I thought this string gave excellent spin and was very very comfortable, almost as soft as a syn gut. Overall, good string. I haven't tried the other 2 though, sorry.

I'm sorry, I meant "Viper" and not "Scorpion".

Everyone says how great TCS is, but they ALWAYS also say it has terrible tension loss. So how do u get around that or can't you? Can you hybrid it with multi or syngut crosses for better tension maintenance?

I think playing a thicker gauge will mitigate the tension loss to some extent, but I don't think you can get around it. You either live it and restring when needed or you go with something else.

That's one of the reasons I've stuck with Spiky Shark for a while. The tension loss seems to happen in the first hour or two and then it feels the same every time I play until it breaks. It's not a particularly soft poly, but it's not over powered either so it works pretty good at lower tensions.

what are we talking about as far as restring goes? How long?

Polyfibre Recommends that you string 2-4 lbs higher than your usual poly set up. I have found that there is a definite drop in tension initially ( stringing at 2-4 lbs higher really helps here) but once it settles in at approx 1hr or so of hitting tension drop off is far less dramatic. The spin I get with TCS is unreal and love the feel off the string bed- very addictive. The string usually lasts me approx 6-8 hrs before I would break the string. If you want a soft, spin friendly string then I would definitely recommend TCS and TCS Rapid. There is a reason why the TW crew love this string!!

I am not a string breaker, so I am hoping it will last me more than 8 hours. That would mean I would be restringing every week and that is too much for me. Thanks for the tip on stringing higher to offset the initial tesion loss.
Have u tried hybriding with something else in the crosses? Maybe a cross like Gosen Sheep Micro would keep the stringbed soft and lessen tension loss?

Sorry I have not tried a hybrid with this string so can't help you there. If you are not a string breaker than I think you will have no problem. TCS is quite durable and this will only be enhanced even more with a tight string pattern racquet like the 300 tour. TCS is plenty soft all on it's own I don't think it requires a Syn gut or multi to soften it up even more. Best to try in a full bed first and then experiment from there.
