polyfibre tcs - woah

tried this string out yesterday in a hybrid with gosen og sheep micro in the crosses (strung at 56 lb. for the tcs (1.20 mm), 54 for the gosen). all i can say is "wow." polyfibre suggests stringing 2 to 4 pounds higher than a normal poly and i can see why. it feels more like a synthetic string (comfort wise) than poly. by far the most comfortable poly string ive ever played with. but even more shocking than the comfort was the spin. i thought blue gear had a lot of spin, but tcs blows it out of the water. especially on my forehand, i thought like i could go for any shot and it would drop in. ive never experienced spin like this with any poly before, let alone such a soft one.

tcs is also one of the more powerful polys ive played with. i might string it a pound higher next time cuz, even with the ample spin, the ball really rockets off the strings. for a power-spin combo, this string is simply unmatched.

the only weakness i found in tcs in three hours of play was tension loss. it seemed to have dropped tension significantly after the first hour of play. i no longer felt like i could hit any shot in, but the spin was still in full effect. this is another reason why i think i'll string it up a little tighter next time. tcs reminds of of sppp with more spin after the tension loss.

after my hit last night, i can safely consider polyfibre tcs to be the beginning of the 4th gen poly. ive never experienced comfort like this before in a poly and and it even takes spin, which poly has always been known for, to the next level. if the tension issue can be worked out, u're looking at the next big thing in polyester strings.

polyfibre tcs can be a little expensive ($14 a set on TW), but ive found it as low as $12 from other retailers online (wont list them here as they're competitors of TW). despite the higher price it demands, there really is no other string like it, so u're really getting what u pay for.

i'll break it down into a 10 point scale to make tcs' attributes a little easier to decipher:

spin: 9
comfort: 8
power:8
tension maintenance: 5
durability: more than 3 hours

i have a wilson k six-one 16x18 and I've tried the TCS. It does have wicked spin and is very comfortable for a poly, but that was only for the first day. The second and third day I tried those strings I didn't like it very much. I used the exact same setup as you did, but I just could not stand the tension drop off. The strings are awesome the first day but it's not the string for me, I'd still recommend people give it a try. Every string should be given a try at least once, you never know what you might like.

my extended review.

i had a lot of similar things to say about TCS. Spin was great, it felt NATURAL, which was the best part. Blue gear was a little too crazy for me, and unpredictable. I felt like I knew what was going to come off the strings when I hit with TCS. I called it a very "organic" feel in my review.

Tension maintenance is really the big weakness, which is a considerable one, considering the price (you don't want to cut it out!)

I think there is little surprise why a lot of the TW playtest team chooses TCS to be their reference string of choice.

Big question: What machine did you have your frame strung up on?

i had it strung on my Ektelon H at 57lbs. It probably would be a good idea to bumb it up 2 lbs when stringing. Right now i found the string that works best for me. Unique Big Hitter 16 in the mains, Gosen OG Micro 16 in the crosses. I'll probably be using that until my reel runs out. It's always fun to play test new strings.
