Do any pros have 2 forehands and no backhands? I was just wondering because I am a lefty but i played righty pretty much my whole life. I just started hitting a lefty forehand and a righty one. I wanted to see if i can pick up some videos to improve my technique with this. thanks.

Wish i could help but i can't. I am sort of wondering something though...What do you do for volleys? I mean you can't honestly be playing someone who hits slow enough to switch hands on volleys.

hahaha, sry i forgot to clarify. Since my dominant tennis arm is righty, i stick with my right hand on volleys.

Nadal is naturally a righty but switched to lefty to take advantage of spins....does that count??????

Nope. Especially at the pro level, you're not going to have time to switch hands. Some players hit with two hands off both sides, but they don't switch positions of their hands, so they still have a backhand and a forehand.

Pavel Hutka, a Czech player from the old days.

Sharapova, when stretched wide to the backhand side, sometimes resorts to a lefty FH. It is no worse than her 1 handed slice BH.

And that, friends is not a slice BH compliment.

Well for me, I play right-handed with a one-handed backhand for most of a match and when I'm in trouble I employ my left with a double handed backhand. I am a natural righty but I can serve with both hands.

Thanks Ammo. I think you're the pro everyone must have been thinking of. Oh wait, you're not a pro and you're talking about hitting a two-handed backhand...

Acasuso and Moya are both lefties who play as righties.

i dun think so...converting from right to left should be easy...but converting from left to right takes a lot of hard work...

wyuntai--Why do you think it would be harder for a lefty to switch over to being a righty than for a righty to switch over to being a lefty? You're assertion doesn't make sense to me.

Rickson and Andres--I agree with you guys all the way. They probably wish that they had capitalized on that lefty advantage. Particularly Moya. It's wierd that he's a lefty, but his two-handed backhand is his weakest shot?!?!

You make no sense.
It's the exact same work.

Believe me, I know I do.
I am a natural lefty who was taught to write righthanded when I was 4. And my coach asked me for the first time which hand do u write with? So I stuck with my right hand. And I regret it more and more each day it passes.

It's weird, because I play table tennis lefty, and play basketball from both wings as equal, but the shooting is more efficient with my right.

So basically, I'm lefty for everything, except tennis, writing, and shooting treys ;)

I don't have the nerves to call myself ambidextrous, but using both hands has been pretty natural all my life. And I'm sure tons of the guys here in TW can relate and identify themselves with my story.

actually moya and acususo may have cross dominance; u can write wit one hand but everythin else u do wit the other. I noe a few ppl like that. It's genetic, so yea, they prob didn't have the choice to go lefty.

Are you serious about Acasuso & Moya? Were they born lefties?

Luke Jensen is ambidextrous and can hit forehands on both sides which used to drive Lendl crazy so he says. Sharapova was born a leftie but plays right-handed. When she is streched wide in the ad court...she sometimes tries to hit a forehand with her left hand but it is rarely an effective shot...almost as ineffective as her challenging line calls.

hahaha. I am kind of weird like that. I eat, write, play ultimate and soccer with my left side but i play every other sport with my right side. weird huh.

I don't know about Moya, but I'm certain about Acasuso, who does everything with his left hand, except playing tennis...

I distinctly remember a girl playing Monica Seles (post stabbing) that hit two one handed forehands. Not only on the stretch like Sharapova but as her regular shot. I remember it because they interviewed Monica about it after the match and she mentioned how other players must have felt the same thing when they played her the first time. Needless to say I don't remember the girl's name.

I think a few years ago there was a russian girl, Koulikovskaya, who played two forehands. Apart from that she was unremarkable, and hovered around 100 in the rankings. Looks like she has retired though.

Wow.
I was born right after a militar government (a dictatorship) here.
For any reason I don't really know, when I learned to write, when I was 4, my teachers taught me to write with my right hand, because that was the "proper way to write".

I never knew this before, that's what my parents told me a couple of years from there.
Anyway, I started to play tennis with my right, because the teacher once asked my parents with which hand did I write, and there, I started to play righty.

I wonder if the above comment is accurate as to the reason he switched:confused:

There have been a few players using two hands on both sides, but I cannot recall a top pro having two forhands.
