Purchasing Alpha Pioneer DC +

After reading around the forums, I have decided to order a new Alpha Pioneer DC + as my first stringing machine :). I will be ordering it off the new tech tennis website. The description says that it comes with some stringing tools. Does anyone know what stringing tools may come with the machine(will I have to buy any to get started with stringing)?

I purchased the same machine back around thanksgiving and am quite satisfied. I would suggest calling in your order. This will give you a chance to speak with Mark (or Greg...I think). That way you will know exactly what you are receiving. They are very good at returning messages and e-mail.

I received an awl, needle nose pliers, diagonal cutter and a string straightener. As mentioned I also received assorted replacement parts and flying clamps for badminton stringing. They also through in $50 worth of string and grips. I would suggest getting a few packs of the cheap nylon string in the deal to practice with. At a buck a set I didn't feel guilty about cutting them out and trying again. In your package will also be a DVD with YULitle walking you through the process, this is very helpful.

I would second the recommendation to purchase a starting clamp, I can't imagine not having one.

Have fun!!!

yep, call and order/ask. you have some options on "free" string accessory choices i believe. the choices are all listed on the new tech site, so take a look and have an idea what you may want.

although i bought a combo 910, i did call them and they were very nice/helpful and i think they were offering $100 worth of "free" strings/grips/etc. Mark told me to look and choose what i may want. I don't think tools (starting clamp) qualified for part of the "free".

Thanks for the replies :)

I ordered the machine with a starting clamp. Must I contact them for the free string because I believe I added to the purchase notes that I would like any of their cheap strings, or should I call/email them to let them know?

I own a alpha pioneer DC plus.

You do not need to purchase any tools to get started stringing however I suggest to buy your pliers and a starting clamp. The pliers that they proved aren't comfortable on the hands and the plastic sleeve on the handle doesn't hold. You should buy a starting clamp because it is easier to use when your tying knots and helpful when your string comes short. The starting clamp would also help when stringing different types of patterns like box pattern, around the world, and etc.

It is a great machine to start off with and hope you receive yours soon.

might want to reconsider purchase... As others have suggested, the Alpha is very similar to Eagnas in craftsmanship: i.e. plastic knobs, much smaller Fixed clamps (more stress), thinner shoulders and supports, etc. However, on a positive note, the customer service is way better. If I were you, I would 100% go with the Gamma Pro II FC. The fixed clamps are 3 times the size of the Alpha's, with the parts being much more heavy duty.

FYI: ********* is offering 15% off!

I don't think it's possible that you could have owned a pioneer DC+. I don't even know where to start except your criticisms are misguided on all accounts.

Alpha makes the best dropweight stringer in its price range.

Personally, I don't think new pricey dropweights (stringway excluded) is a good use of money. I would rather hold out and buy a used crank machine in good shape. If you are patient, they do show up on auction.

Sorry, but it's not really subjective. It's factual! Totally agree, customer service is terrific; however, comparing piece by piece, the Alpha just doesn't compete with the Gamma Pro II FC. Price being equal, you'd be crazy not to take the Gamma.
