Question about Agassi's Donnay

When Agassi was using Donnay, did he just stick with the Pro One? I've seen some old vids of him using a red colored frame at Wimbledon, and he also used a yellow colored one at the 1990 US Open. Were they just different pjs of the same frame?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

i think he tried different frames. i remember one year at the french he tried a donnay widebody and was losing to some unknown. he snapped a couple frames over his knee. went back to his regular frame and won easily

The yellow Donny IS the real, original Pro One frame. The red one was the pj that came after the yellow one.

The only other Donnay frame Agassi used in tournament play was a 30+mm widebody later sold as the Ultimate Pro. He used it to win an exo tournament, then lost in the first round of another tournament, then used it in the first round of the FO as described by Rich.

Note, though that the first incarnation of the Pro One was in fact changed a few months later when Agassi wanted a slightly stiffer version. During this time he did play a couple times with the racquet he had just switched from, a blackened POG with Donnay logo....without telling Donnay, much to their embarrasment.

Hi, just on a production note. The yellow and blue Donnay Pro-One that they sold to the public had the two-handed grip with the red bulbous butt cap. This racket was nothing like the one that Agassi ACTUALLY used beyond the paint job. It was a graphite racket and was pretty cheaply made. The Donnay insignia's were "stickers"! The racket did not come with a head guard so most of these rackets that are for sale now are terribly scratched up on top.

The next Donnay Pro-One they sold was the red and grey one. Donnay advertised this as the "ACTUAL" racket that Agassi used on all of it's paperwork and on the racket ads. This "limited edition" was a much higher grade of production and was a great racket. I wonder if it is true about it being the "actual" racket that Andre used?

The last Donnay Pro-One that Agassi used was the "silver-purple-blue" one. This racket was even more refined and the production value was even greater! This racket did not hang around long since Andre quickly moved to the Head Radical Trysis 260 and the start of his Head Radical legacy. :)

Then, TW came out with it's version of the Donnay Pro-One which is simular to the original red and grey one back then. I think it is slightly different. Still a good racket. I really, really, wished that TW would have chosen the "YELLOW and BLUE" paint job instead of the "red and grey" one. :(

agreed, the yellow and blue pj was cool looking; two of my favorite colors. Thanks for your info as well.

I got my three at Nick's Academy during the early 90's. Agassi used something very very similiar to these, but it weighed a little different. It actually felt like a POG with lead.. but overall it was the same style stick.

Here are some pics.

Those are some sweet looking sticks Sup; Donnay sure knew how to make good looking frames; wished today's frames looked as good.

What pro's were there when you were at the academy, and did any of the people you trained with daily ever make it big?

Hi, got a question for you. I have some of these old rackets as well. Is there any place that still sells the grommets for these rackets? I know that TW sells grommets for their present model but an not sure if they would really work with the old original "grey and red" Donnay versions. Got any insight? Thanks!

ROFL. All of them. I was there during the prime of late 80s- early 90s American tennis. Agassi sparked the crusade at the academy.

P.S. I want to sell them.

The racquets I got were given to me. I tried them out for a couple weeks and didn't like them. They've been pretty much sitting in my closet all these years. So no idea about grommets. Sorry mate.

Wow, you were there at the beginning of our tennis dominance! For some reason, I thought you were there after Agassi and those guys left. Are you sure you're not really Jim Courier who is just showing off some Donnay frames? That's really awesome; how long did you stay?

Meaning= I thought you were younger.. LOL. I however did go back from time to time in the late 90s, but didn't live there then.

I play in the 30's category these days.

yeah, you should keep at least one if you want to sell them; they're classic frames and serve as a symbol of the time when you ran with the big dogs :)
