Question about racquets

When you're paying for your own racquets, how many do you break in anger/frustration in a year? Watching the pros, it seems to be an accepted practice.
I'll confess that when I was about 10 or 11 I broke the racquet my mom bought me, in anger. Had to play the rest of the summer with a borrowed one with a broken string till my paper route provided me enough money to get a new Don Budge (dating myself here). Learned an important lesson that summer. Even now, when I can afford to break a lot of racquets, I still don't.
Maybe a pro that breaks his/her racquet in anger or frustration should be made to play with a Wilson T2000 for the rest of the match. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'd get a kick out of watching them break one of those.

Every once in awhile I will want to throw my racquet but I know I would be more mad at myself if I actually broke it so I just walk over and prepare for the next point.

Years back when I was a "polished" 3.5 tournament player I used to buy cheap used rackets off craigslist or kijiji ($20)...keep them in bag..if I had the urge to trash a racket, I'd wait til change over and then beat the crap out of the used racket :) Now that I'm a "polished" 4.0.. I have no urges to trash a racket..because if you trash a racket..baby Jesus cries just a little bit :(

Times I've broken a racket in frustration - 0.
Times I've been really really tempted to do it - 1,000,000.

Times I've broken a racket in frustration - 0
Times I've been really really tempted to do it - 1,000,000
Times I've sort of wanted to break one... just to do it to see what it feels like... quite a few times
Times I've thrown a racquet into the back fence or even into the net... a couple times, maybe 5 total.

For perspective- number of racquets I currently have - 15-20.
Number of racquets I currently use - 2
Number of racquets I've probably owned in my lifetime - maybe 30-40

I think the only way I might break a racquet is to buy one at a garage sale for $5 with the intent to break it. But I doubt I would ever do that either. It's not the money, it's just the idea of a complete waste. Kinda like burning a $5 bill, just for fun. Um, no.

I've broken 3 APDs in the span of a year. It felt good each time. Been awhile since I've broken a racquet after that and i'm probably less likely to now that the APD has been discontinued.

I actually carry a $5 racket in my bag. The primary purpose is in case someone else has to borrow a racket and asks me. No way am I letting anyone use my playing sticks. Secondary purpose is in case I'm overcome with an irresistible urge to break a racket. But I'm unlikely to ever do it for the same reason as you.

The pros have a racquet vending machine so it is no big deal to them. You wouldn't ever catch me breaking a $200 racquet. I actually haven't seen anyone do that at my club.

Those T2000's were quite the shin gashers, still have scars from them. They broke on their own pretty much at the welds. Met a lady at Club Med once who was still playing with them, she found them on ****, and kept buying them because of the weld problems.

I could hear myself put a crack in one of my POG's once, hitting it against a wood wall in anger, still regret it--take care of your tools and they will take care of you. But, rackets are cheap, you can find a low mileage one at a thrift store or a garage sale for $5--what a country!

The trick is to throw it face down and it should survive.

Never broken a racquet in anger. I did mangle an old Prince by leaving it in my car in an Atlanta summer 25 years ago. The heat destroyed it.

I have from time to time wished that it would break so I had an excuse to buy a new one though. I am one of those that has a hard time replacing something that hasn't broken yet. I play with a pair of matched Wilson Juice 108s ... probably not the best choice for me, but until one of them breaks, I will continue with them. But I covet the Wilson Blade 104 Countervails.

I do wonder why at TTW when you spell it correctly it underlines it as a mis-spelled word ....
