Ratings Calculation Question

Sorry to rehash this but I am finding conflicting info.

If I play both singles and doubles, are only singles matches used in the computer rating by USTA? I much prefer doubles but I will play singles to fill in when there aren't enough players.

If singles play trumps doubles results I may rethink that so I don't get bumped based on singles play.

Any insight is appreciated.

I think a singles match has a larger impact on your rating than a doubles match.

But they both count.

Do matches from another region count as well? for example I played a singles tournamant in Florida, but play in Michigan.

Singles and doubles both count. You have more direct control over your rating when you play singles, just your opponent's rating and score rather than 3 other player's rating and score, but you can still see big swings in your rating from playing doubles.

The USTA includes all your matches regardless of section they are played in. There are a lot of players in areas where it is easy to play in 2 or even 3 sections and all their relevant matches count. But you mentioned tournaments, and whether tournaments are included or not does vary by section.

If you'd like to see an accurate estimate of your rating, take a look at by blog and the reports I can generate and contact me if interested (ratings@teravation.net).

Also, take a look at my FAQ as it has answers to some of these and other questions.

I'll vouch for this. His ratings reports have always been extremely accurate for me.
