Real picky about grips. Shape, size... a bit annoying..anyone else?

I like the wilson grips, shape end L3 size, thing is it is like i could use any racket as long as it have that shape. i have tried customizing other grips, but even Dunlops don`t come close .. That means i am stuck with Wilsons, i don`t really love their frames but i play the ps85 now. If i could have the same grip on all frames i would probably change to another racket, atleast tried to(ps85 is addictive..) or used one of my other 40 rackets.. (i know sending the frames to a customizing company would work, but too expensive..)

I hear you morten, grip length and shape is an important consideration whenever I'm looking for new stick. I too like the Wilson grip shape, they are quite defined with hard edges.

I like a leather base grip and one thin overgrip. Perfect combination of shape, feel and comfort.

On a side note, is the balance of a racquet altered by the size of the grip? i.e. smaller grip size more head head heavy and vice versa.

Right there with you. I'll go a bit further. I don't like anything other than open patterns, <= 20MM (box/box-like) beams, very head light, 320 - 329 sw, 12 - 12.5 ounces.

Morten, have you tried the 001 mid? It's about the only rac. with decent specs. I haven't tried. Thanks.

You don't have to stay with wilson, just because of their grip shape! I use head racquets with wilson shaped grips. There are many racquet customizers who can change the pallet on almost any racquet. I got my changed for $30 a racquet, and it was worth every penny!

I can use most grip shapes fine but I still feel the most comfortable with Wilson too. The shape is moderately rectangular and the flare of the butt cap is perfect.

I too prefer the wilson shape in a 3/8 and it did limit the choice in frames because I don't really like wilson much. Head used to have the worst shape, hated that boxy feel, but they have finally figured it out and their new line has wilson pallets on them, which was great. I have just become so picky that I just spend the major $ and send my frames to **** and get them exactly how I want them. It's a pain and expensive, but I think it is worth it.

i tried it, and found it a bit too powerful but an ok racket, i liked the rdx500 mid more, also the gripshape wasn`t quite right... LOL

I tend to like my rackets too much, usually don`t sell, it is like beig allowed to have multiple girlfriends at the same time But you never know. I may consider selling: Volkl C10, Yonex rdx500mid, Fischer pro classic 98, Estusa pbb... My other mids i like too much, hanging in my room i think..

To me grip shape and size does so much for me. It really influences whether I can switch to a racquet or not.

In my situation I am so used to my head grip shape and size that it's difficult to switch to other frames other than head.

I contacted **** aboiut changing my BB11 mids to a wilson grip and the cost including pallets was very reasonable. I think I will give it a shot this week and hope that they come back in good shape.

Yep if your handle is a foam handle they will strip it down and remold it with the handle and size you want. It will be exactly the same weight and all since they weigh and balance it before any work gets done

If you just want the pallets changed it is $60 plus shipping (came to be around $75). I also add the Head Calfskin grip which adds another $25...

Usually but it depends. If you have them swap the pallets and replace it with the exact same grip it comes back almost identical, the one time I did that it came back 2 grams heavier, but it wasn't noticeable. I just matched the frames myself, the $65 also seemed a bit extreme to me. If you have a scale, lead tape and a balance board it isn't too tough....

In my opinion the closest thing to a head shape (assuming you are talking the old shape, the boxy rectangular shape) is Volkl. I haven't picked one up in a year or so, but that is what I remember. I haven't held any of the Boris Becker sticks, but since they are partnered with Volkl I would think that possibly those have a similar shape.

The Head rectangular shaped bugged me. I'm in favor of Prince, Babolat, and Wilson shaped grips.

As others have posted, changing the pallets to Wilson shaped pallets is about $75 per frame.

I just got my BB 11 mids done and the grip is almost exactly like a wilson grip. This in my mind has improved the racquet dramatically because I just could not get dialed into the rectangular grip that came stock with this frame. $40.00 per racquet on a $99.00 frame. Best bargain out there.

I always have to build up the buttcap in a way that I can comfortably hold the racquet and that keeps my hand from going too low on the handle.

Hi have the same exact problems..
I can't use leather on my head racquets because i develop major blisters in the palm of my hand.. Got to stuck with hydrosorb..
In the wilson racquets i can use leather grips with no problem..

Can i buy the wilson pallets and replace them myself?

Hi. So what do you do to fix it? I personally wrap one or two layers of OG of about 1'' (Im still trying to find the length that works best) around the bottom of the buttcap to keep my hand from going too low. I hate that many times I notice that a big part of my hand is off the handle, with my pinky finger in the very bottom of the buttcap. Many times I have thrown my racquet accidentally because of that.
