Relationship between grips and disguising shots

Question:I have being using 3 grips or rather 2 grips as my full western forehand grip is the same as my single eastern backhand. To change to continental grip from my forehand , I simply change to my backhand grip then a bevel down to reduce wrist action.Which grip I should start using now to have the minimal wrist action to disguise my shot, like a sudden drop shot from groundstrokes?

The best grip for a drop shot is the continental, but you may also be able to get away with it with an eastern grip.

If you're looking for disguise, check out how quickly Nadal goes switches his grip to hit a dropper. It's probably a good example for you since you use a westren grip. (The video is in spanish, but you can see him demonstrate the action in the beginning.) http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/sports/watch/v20696919y4KPKXd9

IMHO - disguise is a little less about the starting grip and more about selling it with your body position, then making the quick switch as you hit the dropper. Make the other person think you are going to kill the ball then - DINK.

I saw in instructional vidoe on the tennis channel where the guy say you should even make a face like you are winding up to hit it hard- LOL!

I have been pulling this off more and more from the forehand side since I switched to a semiwestern grip from a western.

I agree with the bolded part. If I take a big wind up on my forehand before hitting a drop shot, it is always more effective. My backhand slice and backhand drop shot look the same to most folks so the disguise is already built in.

I rotate between 3 grips as well; Continental, Semi-Western, and Eastern Backhand. I don't believe I really disguise my drop shots and the like as I hit them just as a normal shot LOL! I use the same basic body positioning for everything I hit, and the shot comes at the instant my ball hits the racket. I guess that's my disguise if you even call it that! Bahahahaha :)

i use an eastern grip to hit everything including drop shot. The best advice i can give is make sure your foot is extreme close stance when you hit it. Since I hit my approach, close stance forehand, and dropper all with relatively same footwork stance. I never use this on western so dont trust me on that but I can hit it very effectively.

True intellectuals know the best disguised dropshot is the topspin variant because it looks like a power groundstroke until the moment before contact.
