Replacement grip for Yonex Vcore Tour 97

Hi guys,

I'm playing with Vcore Tour 97 310g in stock form and really like it the way it is. I have ordered one size smaller grip so I could put overgrip but I like it the way it is. If I put an overgrip it is to thick for me.

So I'm looking for the replacement grip which is similar to Yonex Synthetic Grip in terms of thickness and weight.
I have fohund somewhere that Yonex Synthetic Grip is 1.40 mm thick but I don't know what does it weight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

You've got six options:

1. Babolat Skin Feel - a touch thicker and heavier than stock grip. Surface is very similar to Gamma Hi-Tech replacement grip, so you could play it without an over grip. Bevels are quite sharp, but with an over grip Skin Feel is very nice.

2. Prince Resi-Thin - also a bit thicker and heavier than stock grip. Surface is soft but not mushy. If you sweat this one becomes very slick. Feels OK with over grip on top, but maybe a bit mushy if one is used to leather + over grip.

3. Tourna Pro Thin - a bit thinner than the stock grip. Same weight. Has a perforated and tacky surface that feels low-quality to me. I would use this with an over grip. This very thin grip has some substance but it leaves the bevels feeling very sharp, almost like if you had just put one over grip over the bare handle.

4. **** Synthetic Leather - I haven't tried this one but understand it to be as thin as Pro Thin (that is, as thin as they come) and weigh about the same. It is meant to be used with an overgrip and apparently feels very similar to leather+overgrip when used this way. Very expensive!

5. Wilson Feather Thin - a new product that TW does not yet stock. A guy in another thread said it was about as heavy and thin as Tourna Pro Thin. Apparently tacky.

6. Two overgrips. This is actually what I'm favoring at the moment, but hoping that **** is worth the bloody money. Wrap the first one double-thick, so that the overlap is almost one-half the width of the grip. This way, instead of an overlap you actually get a slight gap that is reminiscent of the depression in a leather grip where the edges come together. It won't make it all the way up the handle, so this is really an option for a single-handed player. So the first over grip is double-thick, then the second goes on normally over the top of that, making for three thicknesses of over grip. This is just a hair smaller than the Yonex stock grip + over grip and feels very nice. The bevels remain a bit sharper than I prefer, but as you can tell by now I'm kind of girly about this stuff. :)

Thank you very much for your help!

Your suggestion number 6. is very interesting. I has never cross my mind. It seems as a very good idea. I'll think about it.

If I decide to put replacement grip to replace Yonex Synthetic Grip, and planning not to put an overgrip, which of those mentioned above would you recommend?

Totally depends on the feel you like. I haven't been satisfied with any of those I mentioned, although Skin Feel + over grip is my favorite of them. People say that **** Synthetic Leather + over grip feels almost the same as leather + over grip and that's what I'll try next. But I actually prefer Option 6 to the others that I've tried.

I have replaced Yonex Synthetic grip with Wilson Feather Thin, it is actually 2 g lighter than Yonex Synthetic so I have put 2 grams of lead under the grip and it is good now. But there is a problem, it is not comfortable, my thumb hurts so I have to think something else.

If I put two Super Grap overgrips, it will also be to thin, 1.2 mm. If I somehow put 3 overgrips it will be 1.8 mm thick so I'm not sure if that will be good

I have the tourna pro thin on mine.

I had tried skin feel before but I like the tourna way better. I played with it like that for a little bit and i still like it, i just ordered some kimony's to see if i like it a little bit smaller, but i'll definitely go back to the pro thin if i don't like it.

I can't really comment on the weight because i have also flared the butt cap so it has added a few grams there too.

update on the kimony :

They're actually not that much thinner than the tourna pro thin. For some weird reason, the racquet handle feels a little bit smaller in the hand with the kimony, and yet, if I mesure it, it's exactly the same circumference.

I really like it tho, can't get closer to the bevels than that. I have to add that the grip feels really high end, and is just long enough for a yonex 3 handle ( I had about 2 inches left with small overwrap).

Interesting that the circumference ends up the same. The Kimony also feels thinner to me than Pro Thin.
