Ruptured long head Biceps tendon

3 weeks ago, at age 71, while hitting an awkward slice backhand, my Right long head proximal Biceps tendon ruptured. Both the literature I've reviewed and two orthopods argued against surpery. I know I'll lose about 30% of my arm flexion strength.
Does anybody have any suggestions on rehab? one surgeon just said take a few weeks off and start playing again. Sounds aggressive.
I'm starting curls with just 6lb weights. maybe start hitting in 3 weeks??

What was the argument against surgery?

My shoulder is mildly arthritic, appropriate for age. Often osteoarthritic bone spurs and joint space narrowing are what set the stage for a rupture.
Also makes a good result less likely
Don't feel too bad for me, I still have the short head proximal tendon.
Since the long head tendon is completely gone, no danger of further damage to that tendon.I started curls with 2lb weights but my wife made fun of me

Usually not done, tends to fail in older patients. I know a surgeon nearly the same age, even he didn't get anyone to operate on his, though he continued to play decent doubles.
So it separates again after the surgery in older patients? I would get a second opinion.
