It's hard to argue with the match start-time and the match end-time. The Madrid final, from first ball struck to last ball struck, was indeed 4 hours.
But, with the big delays between points by Djoker and Nadal, the percentage of that time spent actually playing tennis was considerably less than today's Safin-Ouanna match.
I'm not a person who gets that upset by the stalling players, but the comparison of these two matches really shows how much difference those extra seconds really make. And, to watch Ouanna and Safin play those incredible, fairly long points in the 5th set, and then get right back up and serve again without delay really shows that no one has an excuse for not playing to speed no matter if the surface is slow and the points are long.
