If they were actually significant for more than a cup of coffee, I might have remember them.. Of course didnt watch much of the trash early 00's transitional era to really care. Since there was no great player even left in tennis until Fed and Nadal showed up and Pete and Andre were gone.

You dont just get annoyed when people discuss the weak current mens field though. Whenever I and other WTA fans speak of the weakest ever current womens field you pounce and try and shove no talent nobodies like Safina, Wozniacki, Azarenka, Dementieva down our throats as well. You tell us we shouldnt miss Henin at all, that seeing an out of shape/half commited Serena suddenly win almost everything again now that Henin and almost everyone else of note is either gone or wrecked with injuries, and talentless Serbian or Soviet hacks playing semis and finals with her should satisfy us enough to forget her, and if not we are somehow glorifying Henin to Evert or Graf stature, LOL! You are free to your opinion of course but just accept that some of us who have followed the game in years past are not impressed with the current state of tennis or the current fields of either gender. Even commentators and experts are talking about the trouble tennis is in, do you really think the current weak fields and weak era has nothing to do with that.

This decade is about 5 players only. Federer, Nadal, Serena, Henin, Venus. That is it. The rest are era fillers.

These "insignificant" guys have won the french open which is something your idol failed to do. So what does that make him? Pete was a great player so please do not bring him down with you immaturity.

Sampras was capable of playing really well on clay for a couple of matches at a time (best 3 of 5) but obviously not over an entire French Open. Even at his peak (93 to 97 probably), he was more vulnerable there than on other surfaces.
Federer's record on clay is obviously superior to Sampras. 4 French Open finals in a row and 5 SF in a row is an amazing accomplishment for anybody.

To be quite honest, Federer struggled big time at RG.

First it was a qualifier, lost a set to a nobody. Federer was lucky that Acasuso choked in that match or he would of been knocked out.

Then he faced Haas which was quite mind bogoling how he didn't manage to win that match. Again, Haas choked big time which allowed Federer to win that one too.

Based on how Federer played the tournament, i don't honestly feel that he deserved the title.
