Seedings...the disadvantage of being Soderling in the last couple of grand slams.

I was thinking in retrospective of the last two grand slams, Rolland Garros and Wimbledon, and even though the second is not over yet, I think Robin Soderling's seeding is simply not doing him any justice and it's somewhat harming the competition.

Of course, I know, seedings are based on the ATP rankings which are based on points won in the last year, but looking over that I really believe Soderling was deserving of a top 4 seeding in BOTH slams.

Let's think about it and let's look at the quarters he has been in: first against Federer and second against Nadal. He won the first and he is also presenting some good chances in the second against Nadal. Of course, many of you would say that he has just simply been rather unlucky having to play one of the top 2 players in the last 5 years in consecutive grand slam quarters but still this would've been much better if it was simply just impossible.

My opinion on how the Top 4 seeds should've looked for Wimbledon and RG:

RG:
1.Nadal
2.Federer
3.Soderling
4.Djokovic.

I mean, clearly going into the clay slam, THESE were the 4 best players to enter the draw, and there is no doubt about it.

Wimbledon:

1.Federer
2.Nadal
3.Murray/Roddick
4.Soderling

Again, Soderling deserves a Top4 seeding here, there simply isn't any player other than the other 3 that could take him out here.

Even with the disadvantage of being seeded outside of the Top4 he still managed/manages to get decent results and hopefully with this he won't have to face such difficult early matchups.

how would sodapop be fourth at wimby with your list? the next player after a tie for third is fifth...
i think every surface (4: clay, grass, hard, and indoor hard) might should have their own rankings...

soda may well pass murray this next week

I put roddick in there just to avoid any bashing by his loverfans in this forums. Murray is clearly better. Wimbledon 2009 was Roddick's best ever grand slam performance, that he has had and will ever have.

Sod was deserving of a top 4 seed at the French based on his clay court game. But we all know the French doesn't weigh clay results to up a person's seed, they just go by the ATP rankings like the Australian and US Open. If Sod wins two more rounds at Wimbledon, he'll reach #4 in the rankings the old fashioned way. Which means no more playing Fed or Nadal before the SF of any future Slam.

Whenever he reaches #4 in rankings he will have that kind of privileges. Playing great in just a few tourneys doesn't get you the best seedings.
