He is not sporadic in his matches. Quit spreading lies. One should only be concerned with their match at that moment. We don't know if coaching was talked about before hand. You can't tell me their isnt a briefing of some sort in situations of this magnitude. Racing, football, boxing etc all have them in some way. FFS they restructured the time clock to enforce game speed this year. You can't think they are being more lenient now than they might have been.

I agree that rules are applied very variably among umps. But this shouldn't be an excuse for any player to throw a major tantrum when they are correclty applied. Especially when it is done by an ump who has a reputation for consistently doing so.

you have a point, but Carlos is known to enforce the rules. Nadal said Carlos "would never umpire his matches again". Also, even male players know they are likely to get a point or game penalty and change their behavior accordingly. I have not seen a player melt down to the degree that Serena did since McEnore and Connors. Serena got it wrong. Carlos got it right. And, Naomi got it very right as she is now one of my favorite players.

Even Mariana Alves, one of the worst umpires in the entire world, who chaired the infamous 2004 Capriati-Serena U.S Open match still officiates somehow. I mean if you're in a chair watching a tennis match, and you're getting paid for it, then do your job and do it without fear or favour, unfortunately, he gave a *game penalty in a Slam final* when she called him a thief. Would he have done it to Federer? He'd be out of a job if he did guaranteed.

Serena is a polarizing figure but I don't think this is about her per se it's about the uneven 'policing' of ITF rules. Imagine if, say, at the 2009 U.S Open final whereby Federer was giving the Umpire an absolute serving about DelPo taking a bathroom break or something along those lines, he got a point penalty let alone a *game penalty*, I mean that's huge. That is massive. How many players have gotten a game penalty this year across both the WTA and ATP? Look at what Pliskova did to the umpires chair in Rome, she got a slap on the wrist and most people thought she was cool for doing so. Had that been Serena..

Ramos would've done the same thing to Federer, except that Federer would never act like this. She literally threw a tantrum during the US Open final, which should be punished accordingly. AFTER her coach coached her from the stands - which he later fully admitted - and which she said about to the ump, it was only a “thumbs up” -

And about which she called Ramos a liar and a thief and falsely accused him of falsely accusing her of cheating - saying he only did it cause she’s a woman.
