Shanghai Doubles!

I have only watched the Gaudio-Gonzales singles match in Shanghai this week, but I have watched almost all the doubles matches. I have to say that the doubles has been really fun!! Paes-Zimonjic vs. Bryan-Bryan was really exciting! The shotmaking and pace of play has been really good. I hope the ATP reconsiders the rule changes for doubles. I really enjoy watching women's and men's doubles the way it is. Anyone else enjoy the doubles in Shanghai?

Agree. Paes is a human highlight reel, diving all over the place. Has the best hands in tennis. Great match last night, better than any singles matches except Fed-Ljubicic. And they seem to be drawing good crowds.

Did you see Mike Bryan start jawing with Paes? Told him to shut up? What was that about?

The doubles matches have been great. I've enjoyed watching them all on TTC channel. It's a shame that Bjorkman/Mirnyi have had such a terrible tournament thought. They're usually much better than that.

Was that in the 3rd set, with Paes and Zimonjic(sp?) leading 4-3, and Bob Bryan serving? Anyway, a weird "correction" was called by the chair umpire, when B Bryan hit his first serve to the deuce court, the machine sounded it was out, but, get this, the chair umpire immediately called "correction" and gave the Bryans their first serve back!!! Paes, who was returning, was shocked, and the milder mannered Zimonjic actually walked straight up to the net and said "You are correcting the machine???", in a normal voice. That was when Paes came to his senses and joined Zimonjic in attacking the umpire's stupid call.

I didn't hear Mike Bryan telling Paes to shut up, but they were acting pretty annoyed alright with Paes and Zimonjic's treatment of the umpire (which I think he deserved). After about 1 minute of that, as P&Z walked back, I can hear Paes clearly saying "Yeah, fxxx yxx too."

I thought that was directed toward the umpire, but it might have something to do with Mike's comment, now that you mentioned it.

My seat is right at the North end of the court, first row, next to the camera.

I happen to think that doubles is far more interesting to watch than most of the singles matches. The problem is that they choose not to show doubles or mixed doubles on TV. I wish that they would show more of it and the only way they will do that is if the major names choose to play. So i guess time will tell if that is going to happen.
