Hello:

As you probably know by now, Sharapova beat yesterday Marta Domachowska

7-5, 5-7, 6-2

in Montreal.

Now, we're told that:

Ai Sugiyama (JPN) d. (3) Maria Sharapova (RUS) w/o (right shoulder injury)

which means that Sugiyama goes straight to the quarters.

Local media reports that Domachowska isn't glad about this, and I can understand her. Even more, I can understand the spectators for today's matches which lose a good match.

Shouldn't the rules for the main draw be modified (in the future) so that Domachowska be treated as a LL (Lucky Loser) and be allowed to play against Sugiyama?

This would allow the tournaments to show a real match, not a W/O.

No. Domachowski couldn't beat an injured player. She lost her match therefore she doesn't advance. I'd be upset if I was her opponent and had to play someone who lost in the round that I won.

It would be nice to see that happen. Remember Hass pulling out against Roger with a sinus infection earlier this year and the Fed just moved on without a match into the semi's or something like that?

Exactly. How fair is it to Sugiyama who actually won all her rounds to get there. Marta lost her match, its different if it happens before the tournament itself starts because nothing in the official round draw has commenced....but once it does and you lose, your out, end of story.

If lucky losers were thrown in in the middle because of a walkover at every tournament it would be chaos, especially at the slams were organizers have to organize singles doubles and mixed doubles and if this kind of thing happened the entire schedule for the day could be shot to you know where. Domachowska lost, and if she doesn't like it she really doesn't have anyone to blame but herself, she didn't play well enough to win, and thats that.

Actually not. She lost, period. She should be out of the tournament as she is. Sharapova's withdrawl is a whole different matter.

I think all about is not that Domachowska should get a LL but about that Sharapova said after match that during it she knows that she wasn't be able do compete next day. I really like sharapova very very much but that sucks... ;/
