Shoe Recommendations

Hi All ,

Just looking for some general advice on shoes.

I currently wear the yonex sht durable , and although they are generally comfortable , sometimes during a long match or when i am moving a lot , i get a burning sensation underneath my foot.
I cant say i have ever noticed this sensation with any other shoe ive worn.

Im flat footed , and have quite a narrow foot, and had to stop wearing barricades a few versions ago as they were really pinching me and causing me to get blisters around where the arch on my foot should be.

I have worn asics shoes before and found these extremely comfortable , but the durability was awful , i think it was one from their challenger line.

I had some of the fed/vapor shoes too which were really good, but they ripped where the shoe attached to the sole on the outside.

Anyone got any good recommendations for a good comfortable and durable shoe

cheers

Nike Lunar Ballistecs, more durable then Vapors (plus a 6 months sole warranty) and more comfortable then Asiscs GR5 and Barricades.

Probably the best shoe out there atm, light, fast, supportive, durable.

A shoe that fits narrow and comfortable? Sounds indeed like the Lunar Ballistecs. I'm flat footed (wear custom insoles) with a rather narrow foot and I personally use the Lotto Raptors though. I find the LB's cushioning rather "spongy", "pillowy" so to speak while the Raptors are firmer. To compare it to the Yonex, the Yonex feel more springy and responsive in terms of cushioning. Not that many really narrow shoes out there to be honest.

I wouldnt say i need an overly narrow fit, just i find that some of the shoes are quite wide fitted, more so than what i would consider average.

I like the yonex shoes, except from the weird burning feeling every now and again.

Think next on my list would be the vapors again , or maybe the asics/lotto's.

Any good experiences/durability with the high end asics?

I have a very narrow foot with a low arch. Several models are too wide and roomy for me. Right now my game day shoe is the Asics Gel Resolution 6. It's narrower in the heel than the GR5 and quite comfortable. It will probably last longer than the Challenger and has a 6 month guarantee to back it up.

I totally agree. We need more narrow and comfortable shoes. I found Lotto Raptors to be more performance than comfort oriented. The Asics GR6 is a good blend of performance and comfort.

One shoe I really like for comfort and cushioning is the Prince T22. The odd thing about the T22 is there seems to be two different widths going around. I have the conservative white with blue trim, and the fit reminds me of the T10, which was narrow for a Prince shoe. However, when I tried on some of the newer colors, they were considerably roomier.

Well apparently and after asking the reviewers, the new Head Revolt Pro run narrow too. Although the playtesters preferred the Raptors to the Revolt.

...except if you have large foot.

Not to mention very overpriced. Right now I see Nike as the evil empire trying to raise the prices of athletic shoes. I've heard both good and bad things about the LB's and tried them on. I just don't see how they can be good enough to justify the price. Heck, Nadal doesn't even like them!

Well about the price, I usually hunt for discounts around $80-90 shipped.

if you wanted to try the LB, just wait for the price to drop around $99 a few months later. Avoid the full price, then when you burst the outsole, you will get the full retail price on a voucher to spend whatever you want at nike.

You can get the LBs at $80 shipped free to US, now, in a tad funkier color.

And that has been the case for a couple of months now.

One place being a vendor call m i d w e s t s p o r t s, use a code called "aussie10" (but hurry up b/c it was for AO and still worked just this moment).

Hope this helps!

I used to use a more narrow than average shoe, but I think my semi-flat feet have gained a little more girth (width) now that I'm 49. I was using the Asics Gel Game for a while, but they introduced a new generation a couple years back and these were even more narrow than the previous version. Too slim for my feet.

Also did okay with a pair of Asics Gel Resolutions from perhaps two generations ago, but these shoes are built with a lot of material in the sole, especially under the heel. They also set my feet/ankles outward a little bit (supinated?) instead of giving them nice level, neutral alignment. I've enjoyed a few different shoes with a more low-to-the-ground design and prefer that to the more "elevated" feel of my older Gel Resolutions.

Right now I have a pair of Lotto Raptors - tried these after sampling two generations of their Vectors. The old Vectors were rather nice (should have bought extras on closeout for cheap!), but the newer ones were significantly worse quality - much less stable, more slippery inside... two steps backward.

While I've only been out with the Raptors maybe a half-dozen times, I've been consistently impressed. Fantastic stability, the shoe does a particularly good job of wrapping onto my foot when laced up, not too thick through the sole that I can still get decent feel of the court surface under my feet... One or two more good outings and I'm going to get at least a second pair.

These shoes aren't especially narrow, but they seem just slightly more narrow than average to me. Not cramped, but no extra space for my feet to slide around - a very good thing. All shoes are different, but these are probably worth a look. For me, these sneaks might turn out to be all time greats.

I switched from Vapors to the Lotto ultra raptors. I really like this shoe. Snug fit, goood stability without being to bulky like the barricades. More cushion than the vapors. Slight break in necessary, but just a few hours. Durability seems pretty good so far(played about 15hrs so far). I may still put a hole in the toe soon, but thats my fault for being a really bad toe dragger. They have 6month guarantee so I'll probably be taking advantage of that. But these are my favorite shoes now. Give them a try.
