Shoes to fit with ankle brace

Hi all, I am coming back from spraining my ankle playing tennis and I will be wearing an ankle brace from now on. The one I have is the same type Murray uses, the Aircast A60.

I tried it it out today and the brace feels good, however it made my current shoes feel tight and uncomfortable. I am currently using 2017 Adidas Barricade's. The shoe has a hard plastic arch support and this along with the ankle brace makes it very tight around the arch and side of foot.

So to get to the point of this post... I want a new pair of shoes that will fit well with the ankle brace. Any ideas?! I'm open to any type of shoe, I'm not brand loyal. I guess I want something that doesn't have much arch support, or maybe a wider than normal fit.

Thanks in advance :D

I think there was recently a thread on this. I have different foot issues and highly recommend KSwiss Hypercourt Express. Seems to check all your boxes. Good luck on the comeback.

Adidas D Rose 7. Derrick Rose wears ankle braces. Unfortunately, he's more known for his injuries now than for his aerial moves.

Thanks for the recommendations so far.

K Swiss Hypercourt Express. I've never considered K Swiss before but they do look quite nice. I'll look into them some more.

Adidas D Rose 7. Looks cool and I would happily wear something like that, however how will they wear around the toe? I drag my toes a bit and normally ruin shoes by going through the big toe area. Is a non-tennis shoe going to be able to cope with toe dragging?

Look at the new Diadora Speed BlueShield Fly. If you look at the 'Fit Details' TW provides on the right side of the page, it calls out specifically in the Width description they recommend for people with wide ankles or wear ankle braces. Alternatively, you could look at the Wilson Amplifeel, it has a built-in ankle support

Yeah, they are one of the only shoes I have found that I am comfortable in. They have a wide and -- for me, more importantly, a taller toe box. And they have a decently wide opening for the ankle with cushioning. They aren't as cool looking as many others, but they are comfortable as hell.

I have worn this exact combination on both ankles and now wearing b7.0s again and I personally didn't find it to be uncomfortable. I don't have particularly wide feet but a flat arch so a bit wider than normal. I wear it as a preventative measure since I tend to roll my ankles a lot. I've also worn the a60s with GR6.0s and GR7.0s as well.

How long have you tried wearing the Barricade/brace combination? Are you experiencing noticable discomfort/pain or does it just feel tighter/snugger than normal?

If the latter, I feel like you just need to go through an adjustment/break in phase of wearing your brace over your tennis shoes. The whole point is to have increased lateral support so you don't risk over pronating and rolling your ankle, so you may feel your range of motion is more limited when you have the brace on over the shoe. Also, the sides of your shoe will start to stretch out so that the fit is not as tight anymore.

I feel like even if you get new shoes, it may result in the same feeling since most tennis shoes are going to sit snug on your ankles and the a60 has the plastic bar protruding where you ankles are, so they are going to push against each other

If you take a look at picture from the top, there is a toe guard where your big toe is. I don't drag my toes, so I wouldn't know how effective it is. Honestly, the soft tread would probably wear out before the toe area. The D Rose 8 has a harder tread that lasts longer, but the 7 has more ankle support. Either one should work for someone wearing ankle supports. An additional benefit is that you'll get the best cushioning anywhere.

I have been wearing ankle braces on both feet for years now. I have tried quite a few different brands and models of shoes, but for my feet, the best I have found is the K-Swiss Hypercourt Express, hands down.

I am wearing ASICS GR7s. Wore them prior to ankle brace and now with ankle brace. There doesn't seem to be any issues.

Am I missing something?

The Nike Zoom Cage 2's were really good with ankly braces, especially with the heel cup being built on the exterior of the upper.
