Should I get a PS85?

Hello,

I am debating on whether I should jump on the ship and pick up a pair of PS85 reissues; I've been using leaded up Wilson stings, but the version before they added PWS.

I added about 10 grames at 3 and 9, and a leather grip, and I play an attacking allcourt game with the goal of getting to the net in a few shots if I can. I play with some spin but mainly flat shots, and am a rec player, not really into tournaments.

I was thinking that maybe a PS85 isn't a bad idea, and am hoping that the added stiffness would help with hitting crisper volleys than I do with the Sting.

Any advice?

Have you used both frames? I'm kinda curious as to what differences I should expect.

The Sting with my setup (a basic syn gut at 62) and the lead added is deceptively powerful. Any shots in the sweetspot have alot of pop, and for flat pace I feel it matches even tweener frames..

Should I expect a similar result with a PS85, given the same modifications?

It will be fun to hit nice volleys more easily and it should keep you busy with hitting on better balance while moving forwards, but if you have lazy baseline tendencies and you fall back, for instance on playing casual but effective defense at the slightest invitation, this stick may spur you towards net away from the trading deep and heavy rally strokes from your baseline.

Just get it already. It's a classic and the basis for every great Six.One series racket. If nothing else, you'll develop a greater appreciation for the old school tennis!

I think that everyone should own one or two just to know what it is like to play with them. Even if they don't fit your game (in your case I think they would), they are worth having - like hitting with wooden rackets every now and then just to sharpen and round out your game...

I think I better start saving then.

One question, does the grip run true to size? I have a 4 1/2 sting, But I was thinking about maybe going down to a 4 3/8 instead.

i have. still own a sting mid w/pws. the ps85 is stiffer and hence has more pop. to offset the additional power, you may need to bump up your string tension a few #s or apply less lead. and yes, if you hit the sweet spot w/ the ps85, there's plenty of power.
