Should I restring?

I bought a Head Liquidmetal 1 about a month ago that came with the original strings. I hear people saying on these forums that strings can make or break a raquet, and it made me wonder.. Even though my raquet is very new, will I see much improvement from going with stock strings to say Prince Synthetic Gut w/ DF or Wilson Stamina/Sensation DTs? I'm not saying I'm postively going for these but they're ones that I found at my local store. What are these particular strings known for (power/control/durability)? And lastly what is a synthetic gut, I see that term come up alot.

If I do restring I'll be putting them at 63 lbs 16x19 pattern, and I'm looking for strings that will last me 2-3 months, as I play 2 times a week.

If you mean the racquet wasn't strung after you purchased it but was on display prestrung, that is reason enough. As to choice of string, check the throat of the racquet for its suggested string. If that string is not in the racquet now, it may be good to start with this and get a feel for how the racquet pairs with it then. Otherwise, there are better strings out there than those you list, unless you break string fairly often.

Oh sorry my mistake, I mean I bought it prestrung. The racquet says to use Head's reccommended control strings. I've decided I AM going to get it restrung at 63 lbs 16x19 pattern. I'm not really on a budget so do you have any reccommendations of good, control strings, that last over the course of months? I don't break strings often, as a matter of fact I never have.

What's wrong with going to the string Head recommends on the racquet's throat? That's the place to start out.

If it's not available to you, then I'd try out Tecnifibre's TrC.

I don't think they're available, I believe my friend bought the last pack of them. I don't remember seeing a lot of different strings there, just the Babolat Hurricane, Prince Syn Gut DF, Wilson Sensation/Stamina DT. Whats the best outta these? Keep in mind Im looking for lots of control

Well, I'd up the tension by a couple of lbs. because of the added power you'll get. And if your stringer stocks string savers, I'd put some in to be on the safe side; you haven't been breaking string, but Sensation is not known for its durability. You'll probably do fine without them, though, as well.

I don't think I can increase the tension anymore than 64 lbs. My racquet says 59 +/- 5 lbs. So you think I should go for 64?

Sensation 16's or 17's for me?

To start with, use the 16 gauge. Those are warranty numbers you're citing, not what the frame will in fact bear; to go outside them is your choice, but I don't think you're risking much if you go to 65, do you?

Fact is, though, too, that you're stringing high to begin with. The USTA has said that in general Americans at least should drop their racquet tension by an average of five lbs.

What do you mean by that..?

Hold everything!!! If you don't have a budget, then get Luxilon big banger alu power(maybe rough) in the mains at 60lbs and natural gut in the crosses at 64lbs(it'll drop a pound in the stringing process). If you can't afford that(and I don't blame you, I can't possibly afford it) then get Luxilon big banger alu power rough in the full stringbed at 60lbs. The latter lasts me at least 5 months.(haven't broken them yet) Plus they are fantastic strings.

P.S. I actually string raquets(not saying nobody else here does).

Hope this helps,
Voltron

I just went to my local store and got the 16 gauge Sensations at 64 lbs. There wasn't a lot of variety there; only had Prince Originals, Prince Syn Gut DF, Babolat Hurricane Pro, Wilson Sensation, Stamina, Reaction, and the Head Power Strings. 15$ for the Sensation, and 10$ for the labour in Canadian dollars.
