Should we have played on? Timed match

I play timed group league matches, 10 min warm-up, 50 min match play. Usually people are very strict about the time with the people about to go on court often reminds the players that time is up so no issues there and it's clear in the rules the match should quit on time even if the score is Ad-40 in the end of a game. However when playing the last match for the night there's no match coming on so here it becomes a bit more complicated.

Played a match tonight, down 1-3 in the 2nd, we play sets to 4. I'm on serve the game score is deuce but time was up. I decided to call it a match, I could have won the game score would have been 2-3, point distribution 3,5 for me and 2,5 for my opponent with slightly better overall game score for me. If he would've gone on to win the game it would have been a set for him and the point distribution would've ended up 3-3.

I decided to call the match when I saw the time was up with the argument I knew nobody was coming on but it would not be fair to the others in the group league if we played on since it would have altered the table in some way or another. It's better to just follow the rules as is. What's your opinion?

My opinion is that there should be a specific rule for this situation, and then you should follow it. What's the rule for your league? Any deviations from it should be agreed before the match starts by both playeres.

The rule is as clear as day. Stop play mid game no matter the score so I probably made the right decision. The problem as I see it is that this rule can be exploited by some players, taking long between points to avoid losing the last game of the match, I admit I play the clock myself sometimes but usually I tend to rush the last game if I'm on serve as I feel it's more fair to finish the game or at least play two more points when the score is at deuce to potentially decide the game but that would essentially be breaking the rules.

No, we always just stop, even if it is between 1st and 2nd serve. you just record whatever the score is

Got to follow the rules

I would perhaps offer to record the score, and then play out the set informally (if that is something you would both enjoy)

One of the matches I played:
We started warmup at 7, played til 8:30 PM, and we were still in the second set.

We got kicked off because another USTA league had courts reserved from 8:30 to 10PM, and they wanted us to wait around til 10PM to finish...one more game. It was like 5 to 3.

Anyways, the opponent timed the match, but if they didn't, coach wanted me to stick around to 10 PM to finish out the set...which I don't think would of sit well with the wife since I had to leave the house at 6PM to get to the match...

Thankfully, he conceded, otherwise, I don't think I would be playing league tennis anymore after my wife gives me the ultimatum.

Im a stickler for the rules and would have left on the dot. Unless of course, I was losing in which case it's sudden death.
