Hello,

Unfortunately I got a small wrist fracture in my left hand, luckily im right handed. Doctor said it would take 4 weeks to heal. Was wondering if I could play tennis normally after those four weeks. Guess everything should be alright except for maybe my backhand? Because my left wrist is used in that swing. Anyone here who had his nondominant wrist broken, and would like to share his experoence??

Two different times I fractured my left wrist by landing on it. One injury was placed in a cast, and one was not. Did not have any problems after it healed. I have had no problems or pain since the injuries. You should be fine.

Did some google searches and I guess its a distal radius fracture. Nothing too serious though, small crack which I can hardly see on the xray..

You guess? What did the doctor say? They should be able to at least tell you which bone was fractured. Without that any therapy advice/stories would sort of be useless.

Distal radius fracture. No problems for tennis. I went skiing 3 months after the initial injury and almost broke it again. <):D Been 2 years now, but i still feel it on some normal everyday activities : baking bread, any pushup or yoga type pose, lifting heavy pots or water containers with one hand.

I can put up my xrays if you want to compare. I can also show you the cool scar. It's a keyloid. Basically looks like a 1-inch worm sticking outta my wrist.

The doctor and I had a slight language barrier and I'm not familiar with these english medical terms haha. But you're right I should give some more specific info! Just checked the xray and I'm sure it's a radius fracture;) not the ulnar! Don't know what the 'distal' means though...anyway, thanks for the replies guys.

Your fracture sounds a bit worse than mine, so I"m not really worried about my tennis anymore hehe. thank you!

I'll drop a picture of the xray on here later today !

I found my hard copy x-rays. I know I have some digitized somewhere, but I can't find those right now. I wouldn't know how to take a photo of them since you have to hold them up to the light unfortunately. Papers say fracture at distal end of radius. (Updated previous post). I'm guessing distal means the side near the wrist.

Basically, fracture goes across entire bone at a slight angle, kinda like this \. Except maybe at 20 or 30 degree angle instead of 45 so that it starts from the right side and goes to the top of the bone. Also, broken into 3 pieces.

Hi guys, finally the cast is off my wrist. Only one problem. Have played some tennis now, but my wrist kind of hurts on my backhand, especially when I try to accelerate. Also with some other small impact activities where my wrist is involved, I feel a light pain, for example when closing a door (combination of pushing and rotating with my wrist..). Any of you got an idea why this is the case? Should I just take some more rest?
Guess I'll go see a doctor tomorrow..

I did rehab, and even after that was done, I continued with it for a while. (i couldn't move my wrist at all, or lift a pencil up). During that time, i don't think i played tennis. Then i went back to lifting and started from ground zero and went up slowly. Within 9 mo., i was benching my previous weight so i figured i was 100%. I still feel slight pain in certain things like pushups, yoga poses, lifting pots, etc., so i'm still doing some rehab.

The point is, don't expect everything to be the same after you are 'healed'. Also, don't expect everything to be fine after rehab either. Don't get me wrong; You're at 98 or 99%. But if you want that last 1% or .1% in my case, then some rehab may be necessary.

This sounds strange, but most of the previous rehabs i stopped doing because they're no longer effective. Wrist curls, hammer curls, etc. I know because i can do pre-injury weights wo pain, yet i still feel slight pains on some activities. So what am i to do since all the rehabs are no longer effective? In short, baking bread. I bet most of our grandparents (or great-grandparents) had really strong wrists from doing manual labour. I know my grandpah had a really strong grip. That should give you lots of ideas of what to do. I haven't tried any other things yet, but i know baking bread works.
