So, you think a D1 male can beat up on the WTA?

"What we have here is a failure to communicate". most male egos on the board are easy to throw out the word ALL and NEVER.

You guys seem logical enough to say, the top guys.

The OP sounds like she is stating that saying all D1 players can beat any WTA player is a bold incorrect statement.

I agree that the top guys are too tough for even the top WTA players. However, I can select some local d1 college players and put them up against serena and put confident money on serena.

Got a problem with that? Take it up with her.. LOL.

Except OP is trying to tell us that Klahn, who goes to Stanford (very good school in terms of tennis), who is a top 30 singles player in the nation, is actually losing to Jankovic. Sure, if the guy is out the top 100 I could see it happening. However, Klahn is ranked in the ATP, crushed David Britton recently (another ATP pro), etc.

She goes so far as to imply that not even the top D1 college level players can handle the WTA, and that is simply untrue.

Is that right? I think maybe she used the video to show that janko can handle herself, but klahn is tough to play against. He's surely top US material.

The OP perhaps picked a bad example, but how many videos are out there showing a lowly D1 player losing to a WTA player. The male ego is too fragile.

Speaking of WTA player, I'm really hoping Dementieva will be staying at Drakulie's condo complex again. Im thinking of heading down there and may personally ask her if she's taken any D1 players in a tennis match.

Maybe tough to ask with Drakulie on her leg.. DOWN DRAKULIE!

Well, you're wrong.

Stanford's #1, Bradley Klahn, getting schooled by Jelena Jankovic, this year (a year when she's not even been at her best). He is ranked #52.

Thanks to Bud for posting this elsewhere.

Now maybe you guys will start realizing just how good these gals are.

I was there watching JJ practice with Brad. On the ground they were pretty equal but with the serve Brad would win most of his serving points. I recall JJ's coach asked Brad to only serve 2nd serves so she can get into the point. This video shows nothing

You know, I'm pretty sure that is what I clarified, over and over again. Around 13 pages ago.

I think it does show something...exactly what you said there...that off of the ground they were pretty equal. Which, would be a revelation for some posters here, really, it would. You wouldn't be the guy who took the video by any chance, would you???

To the general posters of this thread...how about this, if you can't contribute to this thread without throwing some kind of insult in my direction, you don't post? I'll do the same!

Really? I did? Can you help me out, 'cause I sure don't remember saying that...

I do remember saying that she won the majority of the points in the video...because she did.

I do remember saying that, because it isn't actually *my* video (that's for Ubermeyer there), that we'll never know if it was a match, just points, whatever.

I do remember saying that I don't think there was any purposeful editing of the video to highlight JJ.

Sure you're not confusing me with someone else?

And please, don't try to tell others what I'm implying, okay...I'm pretty capable of doing that on my own.

Klahn is ranked 902 in the world this week and has a couple wins over guys in the 300's. Here are the results from a futures event he played in a few weeks back.

U.S.A. F22, CA, USA; 14.09.2009; FU; Outdoor: Hard; Draw: 32
Round Opponent Ranking Score
R32Denes Lukacs (HUN) 935 W 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
R16Dennis Zivkovic (USA) 683 W 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
QYong-Kyu Lim (KOR) 381 W 6-3, 6-2
SDaniel Danilovic (MNE) 522 W 7-6(6), 6-3
FMatej Bocko (SVK) 560 L 6-7(4), 3-6
This Event Points: 9, South African Airways ATP Ranking: 1,288, Prize Money: $900

This is an old and tired arguement. Women are soild off the ground and can really turn on some shots, but they can't handle the serves.

The problem here is your use of the word schooled. You were too anxious to prove a point using a non conclusive video.
If it makes you feel any better, I will agree with you that these gals are good( in relation to my game, not Klahn). But if Jankovic and Klahn were to play competitively against each other, I would go for Klahn.

So, basically, you... who claims to have been there as a witness, are stating that they were approximately equal except for Brad's superior 1st serve?

They were definitely not equal off the ground as the video clearly shows. You may have been there but you haven't reported accurately.

Jankovic, who is competitive with Serena and Venus... both of whom can serve as fast and effectively as Klahn at his current level, can't return his first serve? Come on. You're just guessing Brad would win most of his service points.

BTW, what are Brad's first serves clocking on the radar? From the videos I've seen of him playing matches... his serve is not a weapon.

This is Devin Britton playing Roger Federer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xON-Oew4DHc

This same player (Britton) lost 6-1, 6-1 to the D1 Male (Klahn) featured in the video in the first post of the thread.

Since Klahn posted a win with a better scoreline against Britton than Federer did, and Klahn was "schooled" by Jankovic in the video, should we then conclude that Federer might also get "schooled" by Jankovic?

OR - should the aforementioned facts allow us to come to a reasonable conclusion about what's actually taking place in the video?

This topic that woman are "Equal" off the ground does not translate into winning matches. Players like Seles and Davenport can hold their own when hitting straight up with men. I think Courier said that Seles was phenomenal when just hitting straight back and forth. The problem is that women's foot speed and court coverage is just plain inferior to men. As Venus said after the infamous Karsten Braasch match, I hit shots that would have been clean winners against a woman, he not only got to them, but hit them back harder. Even apart from the disparity in serve, women just can't cover the court well enough, regardless of how great a ball striker they are. In running events, Masters Mens times are equal if not better than the "Open" Women's times, at just about any distance. That is part of the reason why Arthur Ashe doubted that Steffi Graf could win even a Boys 18 and under National event (read his book Days of Grace). Once again, to think that any WTA player could beat a top D1 man is delusional. A top WTA player is probably equal to about a 55 year old man (think Riggs vs. BJKing, even though Riggs beat M.Court before that match), where the court coverage is closer to equal. Please stop this madness and recognize the physical and biological differences. And yes, John McEnroe would beat anyone on the WTA.

Lost in all this is the fact that on one's made fun of the actual title of the thread.

Many amateur tennis players can beat up a woman, provided they are strong enough. The only one they may have some trouble with is Serena and maybe Kuznetsova!

Well, Bradley Klahn just beat the #8 seed, someone in the top 160, to get to second rd of the Challenger in NorCal. I guess the schooling he got from Jankovic paid off.
