I'm willing to hold off on any Sofia declarations for now, but WOW she was clutch in that third set when she got into that 0-40 hole. I was sure that she would hit the panic switch and donate the game to Garbine. She didn't. The match seemed to be really up and down for both players, but in that moment she played like she really knew what she was doing.

I think she held it together quite well for her first slam. She bested a lot of quality players to get to the final, Including the world number one. So let’s acknowledge that in itself. I will say it again, Kenin is one of the rising stars in the WTA.

What I like about Kenin from what I've seen last year and this year is that she has great timing and good decision-making. She just doesn't throw away a lot of shots. She reminds me of a female Davydenko, and I always liked his ball striking and ability to just redirect and move his opponents around. Let's hope she is injury free and continues to play this way throughout her career. It will make it easy for her to be "clutch" having simple, consistent strokes that don't break down under pressure. That certainly seemed to be the case today, though it wasn't in the Barty match. Well, everyone's allowed to throw in a stinker once in a while, and she won that one.... Let's hope she ends up being a bright star in the WTA. She's a nice contrast.

Yes on the whole her decision-making is good, however there were a few too many shots in the final where she had Mugur on the run way off to the side of the court and rather than either drop-shotting her or placing the ball on the opposite side of the court, she simply hit a passive looper to the middle of the court, allowing Mugur to get back in the point and re-group.

No Sofia, your symptoms are not mild because you were vaccinated.
They are mild because that is to be expected for youngsters like you.

It was likely a combination of both in this case, as well depending on the strain she caught. I hope she doesn't show any long term effects. A friend of mine caught it as he travels for business, and he tells me he feels almost like he has Lymes disease 6 months on.

This disease seems very random, my friends' 21 year old son was quite ill for couple weeks last year. Youngsters are not expected to die but they can be whacked by it.

Wow, looks like she has to play Townsend next. Tough draw for both of them. They are both better than a lot of the other names still left in qualifying.

Didn’t realize so many of the women in qualifying had reached quarterfinals before. I wasn’t following tennis that closely for a while, so I had no idea about some of them. Ditto those men. I know nothing about their runs

Sofia Kenin is the most entertaining player in women's tennis. Its very disappointing that she is not winning titles regularly, but hopefully that is about to change and she will add a Wimbledon title to her AO trophy.

What makes her so entertaining?
At her best (AO 2020) she's the most athletic player in tennis history = runs faster than anyone, swings harder than most..... plus she displays more emotion than anyone (literally crying between points, and epic celebrations). Oh, and she's got a blind service motion.

Are you some sort of AI experiment, or a real person?

I think you need to clean your glasses.
