Speaking of 4.5 guy 3.5 girl 8.0 combos...

I just saw the winners of our 40+ sectionals. Seen a guy I played 8.0 18's with a while back playing 9.0, was curious what 4.5 he was playing 9.0 with...

Turns out he's now a 5.0 and playing with a 4.0 girl. HAHAHAHA

I knew that guy was not a 4.5, because he played D1 college in the early 90's.

I looked up the 3.5 girl he was playing 8.0 with... and she's still a "3.5" LOL.

At least I dont have to feel as bad about that loss as I originally did. Half of the 4.5 males on that team are now 5.0's.

They only ran 4.5 male/3.5 female combos.

we used to run 5.0 men/3.0 women and one 5.0 woman/3.0 man--that's really, really hard to beat if you're 5.0 woman is legit and your 3.0 man is like a 3.5 man. then, they banned us... :( not because of us, but another team had a mean 5.0 man and an awesome 3.0 woman (husband/wife team) and basically he was pegging everyone :D ahhahahaha my former teammate... but to ban all of us. sad.

Yep. Also why they made the 1.0 NTRP rule. Hard enough to deal with a 1.0 skill gap as it is, but more than that is insane. You're an old school player though. Things were different then, haha.

Our friend would hit us on practice and we were all 4.5- 5.0. I can't imagine how many times he crushed people that were 3.0

Considering many 4.0's and below dont know how to protect themselves or play defense in dubs, I cant even imagine how dangerous a 5.0 and a 3.0 on the same court could be. There are still 4.0's who dont know how to back up from the net when im hitting an OH. Considering I can hit 100 mph serves, and I can easily bean a net guy with a serve if I tried, why would you stay at the net when im taking an OH from inside the baseline??? I never understood it. At least when im serving you're probably not in danger of being beaned with the serve, but during a live rally, how can you assume that I wont hit at the net person? Never seen a 4.5+ make this mistake. I see a lot of 3.5's and 4.0's that do.

When I see a bad lob and im at net im backpedaling as fast as a can, in line with whatever angle is the highest percentage angle. Sometimes that's straight back. Sometimes that off to a 45 degree angle. I dont expect people to "not bean me" and I want to be in the best position possible to make a play on the ball, but for some reason many 4.0's and below think that "best position" is at net... lol

I had a guy when I was inside the service box waiting for lob who decided to charge the net. I let it bounce and looked at him ans i started to swing. He tried so hard to stop and retretat when he realized i was going to hit at him. He fell to ground when he couldnt stop. And he was a 4.0

it was bad enough that they banned all of us. but when we played it was interesting because:
1) people didn't know who we were. we were 5.0 when alot of these guys just started. They never seen us play.
2) the amount of attitude we got--they wanted to challenge us and see how good we were.
3) they didn't know what they were doing....

we played in this Ekolu league, ekolu means three--it was a local league--no nationals. It was men's, women's, and mixed. we were unstoppable in mens and womens--no ad deuce--receiver's choice. the 5.0 would take the deuce...

they held a meeting to ban 5.0/3.0...but I think it became a national thing

If you all are so good, why are you hitting at anyone at all? You should have the ball control to be able to place your shot wherever you want....finding/creating and hitting to the open court is so much more humiliating and satisfying than hitting an opponent.

And that's why low level players make so many UE's trying to "avoid" people by cutting these fancy low percentage shots (to make the highlight reel) instead of hitting high percentage winners (that win the match and dont make the highlight reel). I guess the top 10 players in the world arnt good enough by your standards then, because even in singles, hitting directly at the net person happens.

The ball moves pretty fast at high levels of tennis. If every ball I hit was 3 ft. over the net going 50 mph or less I probably would "hit to the open court" and could "place the shot wherever I want". Since serves, groundies, volleys can be coming at 80 mph, sometime the best play is to play the ball back at 80 mph in a high percentage angle, which sometimes means in the direction of your opponent.

This just sounds miserable. I don't see how anyone had fun with this set up.

We did to for our gfs who were 3.0 and just new to tennis. They got to play a higher level and really got better .

All my friends play tennis but all our wives and gfs didn't. So one night my buddy head pro at a school and I were talking about our wives... We said lets make a 2.5 team and go nationals...

My ex, his wife-he and I are certified upsta pro ones--our two 5.0 teammates--one was ex div 3 player plus our other buddy whose gf played high school. Our good friends wife former 3.0. Basically the team was coached by 5.0 men and a 5.0 woman--6 coaches of which three were upsta certified. Ten players--2.5 only needs five. We win Oahu, win sectionals, go nationals and bam they're 3.0 but now it's harder--so to accelerate the curve we play Ekolu league (Hawaiian) for three a men's a women's and a mixed. We do pretty well. January is women's league--so we make a 6.0 team, an 8.0, and a 9.0 team. All the guys on 9.0 play 8.0 etc. it was just for fun. But when you put 5.0 people in an 8.0 league against other 8.0s who play for real well then we play for real... I never hit a ball at a girl in 8.0 til they hit one at my partner then it was all in... You would be surprised how soon people hit at our partners..

Like Rambo said, "I didn't draw first blood..."

It was our gfs and or wives. We have a rule never play with your spouse so it was opposites. Kind of funny. Good for the other player

That's a sensible rule. Most couples I know play together spend most of their time arguing.

so when i was at 8.0 nationals two years ago -- i was a 4.5 then (now a 5.0) playing with a 3.5 (who is now a 4.0)...we played a "4.5" guy, who was currently playing D2 tennis...and a "3.5" girl who just graduated from a D2 school...point is, they were EASILY a 10.0 pair...if not 10.5+ haha, got smoked...there's always someone better (or someone who games the system better haha)....
