Start at throat or top?

what I saw from video supplied with alpha dc plus is if the grommets are even at throat start at top. If it's odd , start at throat. Is that accurate for bobalat pure drive plus which has even grommets at throat.

I saw some YouTube videos and they seem to start at throat?

It's not even and odd, since every racket has an even number of grommets in the throat. Generally instructions are to go by if there are 6 or 8 grommets in the throat (so maybe they meant odd/even per side). So if there are 6 grommets you start at throat, 8 start at head.

You can easily tell just from basic logic and comom sense if you count ahead on the throat. Meaning the string can't exit out the outer most grommet of the throat, since then it would have no where else to go. The string has to be going into the throat grommet and up towards the head at the outer most throat grommet.

Count the number of mains that go thru the throat; not the number of grommets. Some Prince frames (O3, EXO3) do not have grommets on the last main thru the throat. If you count 6 mains thru the throat, your mains start at the throat. If you count 8 mains thru the throat, then the mains start at the tip.

This is true and something I thought of. I was just keeping it simple since that's the general rule and applies to his Babolat. If he were stringing a Prince ported frame, then I'm sure there'd be even more questions than just where to start the mains.

Well there are an even number of grommets in the throat of every tennis racket I have strung. If you ever start on the wrong end you will figure out what went wrong very quickly.

HINT: Divide by 2

First O3 messed me up… strung it "upside down" and damaged some of the rubber grommet damper stuff. Where were you to warn me about that!?!

PS. Looked like I wasn't the first one though. Considering my sister had her racquet strung by professionals, I don't feel so bad.

Go see your bartender if you want sympathy! Or ask the SO, who will probably snicker at you.

It use to be much simpler until Prince introduces those damned ports. Or ports with grommet inserts. You only had to worry about top down or bottom up crosses. Then Dunlop also introduced some frames with asymmetric ports and then Babolat started with their versions of Only-One-Way-To-String-It. So consider it a rite of passage. Go have a beer. :D

Sipping my bourbon and 7 while reading your post.

Now that I've gone through the mistake, O3 is a breeze once past top half of racquet. :D
