Stevie Johnson was granted a wildcard into the qualies of IW. Drew Emilio Nava, young American. Lost a break in the 3rd at 4-5, after splitting 2 tiebreaks.

Watched on tennistv Livestream w/o commentary. Gave a somewhat longer handshake and talk at the net, then a really long handshake to the chair ump. Signs a couple autographs. Wife and kids came down to his bench, and he carried one off.

Then the on court announcer says something about his great career and gets the crowd to applaud him. No speech from him. Nava says nice things during on court interview.

Goodbye to the winningest college player of all time. Top 20-something player, whose dad left too early, and had a profound impact on his career. All w/o a backhand. Amazing career.

He looked to have lost heart years back and is just there collecting checks. I mean, good on him for what he was able to do, and hope he has a good next career.

If he’s done I’ll miss him. I’ll always fondly remember him being hampered so much he could barely move against Jordan Thompson in Australia, and managed to claw his way back into the match and win. The Australian commentators were so shocked at what they were seeing, there were extended periods of dead air while they attempted to come up with an explanation for Thompson’s inability to put Stevie away.
