I just magnetic lassoed it. Maybe a 30-second operation? But then there's a bit of cleanup and blending into the background. I dunno, there are probably about a dozen ways of doing the same thing, so I doubt I'm using the most efficient...
These are special order, but the scouts will probably steal a few and have them on the streets in no time.

I didn't really like my heavy-handed ornaments, though. But I don't know if I really like this one either. So I give up (except that I wouldn't mind a hybrid version like in "A Christmas Story" with a lady's leg for a stand and a lamp shade on the top...)

I've got a funny little yarn to share with you:
Just before Christmas, we decided to do away with beds for our 4 year old and 2year old daughters and let them sleep on foldable mattresses (tatami-style) so that we could optimize the play area in the kids room in the daytime. The 4 yo was initially thrilled with the idea, but on Christmas Eve, she threw a huge fit and insisted that she had to sleep on the bed. We had a huge battle for about half an hour until she finally revealed the reason for wanting to sleep on the bed just this one night: she was afraid that Santa would step on her when he visited to stuff her stocking!
We gave in and peace prevailed once again.

Yeah, it's one of the more popular tree stands down this way. I'm hoping a few people will accidentally throw theirs out with the tree after the holidays. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for throwaways.
Hey, nice to hear from you, Jon. You've been a bit quiet over here lately, so I have to assume you've been busy with bigger things like "racquets" and "playing tennis" of all things. Oh, wait. I forget that's what it's all supposed to be about.
One more week and I'm back to something like "normal" mode and playing (and some stringing) will be my new thing (unlike the last couple of months, where I've done nothing but work and build the photostringer site).
My little 5-year-old girl's Christmas appetites were appeased with a new bicycle this year. She's had nothing but fairly raggedy, hand-me-down, just-about-ready-for-the-dumpster bikes up 'til now, so we decided (er, I mean Santa decided) it was time for her own bike. I think I'm getting as much of a thrill from it as she is.
My own Christmas present was something with the word "Gamma" in it, and I got it very early, so I'm happy watching the other kids play with their toys right now. I'll be playing with my new toy after January 1.

I think if you would have been able to leave off the part about the flu bug, it might not have been so difficult to work around. But a Tennis El Nino is never any fun and I've been dealing with a prolonged one of my own for a quite a while now, too, so you have my sympathies...
Here's to as much tennis and a few El Ninos as possible for 2007.

Next year, I'll be sure to scatter a few stringing-related goodies under the tree to make it look more like a real stringer's Christmas. This year, I ran out of time for last minute shopping...(OK, out of time AND money).

I've barely gone a day without someone sending me something new, so the site grows daily. I try to keep up with it, but I'm running a bit behind on things (you know, with dealing with my "real" life, work, and other trivialities). But it's actually a GOOD thing to have a bit of a backlog. If it's difficult to keep up, it means I'm getting good response, so I'd much rather have it this way.
