Suggest my next High Spin, Baseline Weapon - Babolat lover willing to cheat on brand

Chapter 24

New User
I have a Bab APDGT and I love it, EXCEPT I can't lead it up the way I want at the moment, mainly because the SW out of the box is 331...I don't have the room I need to maneuver in the SW ranges I am experimenting with.

I have a Wilson K Six-Two which was my first racquet, a back-up racquet which is moving up to my main racquet as I discover some new lead arrangements. I am appreciating the Wilson more now because I have more room for customizing than the APDGT, Wilson SW out of box was 310. But still, I think I need an even lower SW as a starting point.

So here is the criteria summary for new racquet:

1) Must be a reputed topspin machine/baseline weapon of mass destruction

2) SW is about 300 or less (factory spec)

3) Head light balance (factory spec)

4) 16 X 19 open string pattern

5) 100 sq in head size

6) Would consider 27 and 27.5 inch (I use 2HBH and like long handles)

Can't Edit - bear with me please

Wish I could edit my post but can't so I need to modify criteria slightly:

1) Must be a reputed topspin machine/baseline weapon of mass destruction

2) SW is about 300 or less (factory spec)

OR 2a) SW is 300-320 but static weight is relatively high maybe 325 grams plus (a depolarized set-up)

3) Head light up to very head light balance (factory spec)

4) 16 X 19 open string pattern

5) 100 sq in head size

6) Would consider 27 and 27.5 inch (I use 2HBH and like long handles)

I think those are right in range. A VO2 320 I think has a slightly lower swing weight than the Aero.

Just demo a Head YT Extreme Pro.
It swings lighter than its specs indicate.

Never hit with the reqular version, but leading it up would work

You don't want less SW then 330 for "machine/baseline weapon of mass destruction" - don't waste your time.

Still, RDS001MP starts out at about 320SW strung and matches your specs.

Wearing out the spreadsheets !!

After hours of number crunching I think that starting with about 320 g of weight and SW = 310 is ideal to get me what I need

Just to add to what I have already written, I'm going to lead it up, initially to about 330 SW or a touch more with a static weight in the mid to high 330's.

I'm trying to lead it to the equation MgR/I=21.0

This limits the possible set-ups when I am constraining myself with the SW. Also, I like the feel of a lot of weight at 3/9, esp for racquets with lower twistweights so I have to leave room for this.

I need to start with ideally at about 6 points HL or lighter though I might be able to make it work at 5 HL. The more head heavy the starting point the more weight I have to add to the handle.. where I don't want to have to go bezerk with lead.

The closest thing I found so far is the Yonex S-fit 1.

Kinda Ugly though ???

Head Youtek instinct is also close but I'm not sure the reviews are solid enough.

Prestige Pro recommendation is much appreciated - maybe a little too heavy for me at this point as I would want to beef up the twistweight, this one has a low value there.

Tecnifibre tflash 300 or 315 but the sw is 325. If everyone hasn't noticed I like tecnifibre a lot and would like to see it grow into a larger company

Pro Supex 100" Dynamic Energy. 100% pure graphite - like pro stock stuff. 10 frames arrived, all within 1 gram of each other, and I will soon post a review of a new "+" version, 27.5, they are making me (prototype) and should be available, retail, after I give feedback.

I've demo'd about 50 rackets, was offered sponsorship from a major tennis company.......and chose Pro Supex. Absolutely sweet frame; rock solid, crushes the ball, tons of feel and control, rips the cover off the ball with spin, serve and volley....does it all. Amazing 'pocketing'. It's really Nadal's frame - with no crap in it for 'retail'.

I work out with a kid who's sponsored by Babolat, and he's going to go with PS. Says it's "just a sweeter frame". He's waiting for my new + versions, as that's what he plays with.

Except that no 'name' plays with it, but hey - at almost half the price, retail, of other 'name' frames.... I'll chose substance over style, anyday.

Just my uninformed 2¢..........

PS...An afterthought: Closest 'feel' description I can give? A larger, more powerful version of my Head TGK 237.2 pro stocks. THAT'S how the Dynamic Energy's feel, since they're 100% graphite.

^^^^^^^^

Did you take the PS Nano Energy out for a test drive? If so, can you compare/contrast playing characteristics with the Dynamic Energy? Thanks!

Edit: What was the weight of the closely matched 10 racquets you received? TS specs give a pretty wide weight range: 305 to 315 grams.

I'd first tested that 95 Nano, as I loved the Fed' frame (def' not the BLX), but was seeking a 95. It's considerably different than the D/E, and to be honest, I was soooo impressed with the D/E - which was odd, because I've never really cared for the Babolats, so didn't hit too much with the Nano. Great frame, though, and nice plow-through, fast and solid. I would think that I would have leaded it a bit to find it's sweetspot. Since all of PS's frames are 100% graphite (there was one graphite/fiberglass I wanted to try - discontinued), I doubt there's a dog. They are NOT some "cheap knockoff", as someone on the boards suggested (after glancing at the website for 10 seconds), but some of the best rackets I've hit - and their retail price is GREAT! Mine came pre-strung with a Pro Supex nylon that actually isn't bad, right out of the bag! Not like the BLX demos I tried with some Wilson stuff that felt like 120lb fishing leader - THUUUNK...

I'd leaded the D/E's in different ways, but for my game, I found that I used a balance board and wrapped lead around the shaft, each side of the throat, dead-center of the balance point. D/E, stock, strung, is right about 333/334. Mine are now weighted to the +365g. They're responding nicely at this weight, although I may weight one up to 370-380 mark, and make it slightly more headlight at that weight..

Looking forward to the 27.5 version. I think it will be close to illegal to have that much fun....

Hope this helped...

The wilson kobra team fx is what you want.

Thanks !

The numbers work out nicely, better than most of the others that are also close to my criteria.

What about the stiffness - 58, that's very low. Does it play a lot stiffer than this ? I would be concerned that I would lose a ton of power, being used to something closer to 70.

The kobra plays stiffer than its stiffness rating. It is less powerful than a pure drive, that is why i use it.I get the spin of a pure drive with out the rocket launcher power.

Did you have to wt it up some?
I did.
