Supporting someone in a match and then years later wishing the opposite?

Are there any matches where you supported a certain player but then years later changed your mind?

My example
2001 Wimbledon Final

Really enjoyed the 'romantic' wildcard story especially after all the near misses. Liked Rafter but had no strong feelings. As I grew older I learnt more about Rafter and realised that he was a great guy - and that of course he had already had his own near miss.

If I had my time again I would have supported Rafter.

Be interesting in you guys examples? W2019 comes to mind? Anyone feel twangs of regret supporting Novak and now knowing it was Federer's last stand wished the opposite result?

Cheers.

Whoever supported Novak in W2019 wishes the same now  Fed wouldn't be done if it was otherwise, his fans would continue to act smug without proper reason, and Djokovic could suffer more, maybe he would have 17 slams now

Me with Djokovic
2016- badly wanting him to lose
2018- match with chung cheering for him to win
2021- just badly want him to lose

To be fair that one is not definite quite yet. Surely if Novak/Nadal don't win another one you would want this one to stand.
I presume he’s a Fed fan and while now it’s not definite I’m sure most Fed fans would want Djokovic on 19 and Nadal on 21 bases on Nadal looking done and Djokovic seems to have more left.
Also that was Djokovic 1st slam in 2 years after his injury and slump if he doesn’t win it he might not go on the run to even get too 20

Really it's that I miscalculated. I wanted Novak to come back to prevent Nadal from dominating tennis in his 30s. I couldn't stand the thought of Rafa running around winning Wimbledon and Australia because there was no competition left.

I just didn't think that winning that tournament would awaken the beast, winning 3 slams in a row and becoming arguably even more dominant over the tour than he'd ever been before. Way more than Nadal had been or would be in those 2017-19 years.

I'll give that 2018 Wimbledon back to Nadal every time if it means Novak's still slumping and not there to prevent Fed winning it in 2019.

I regret supporting Becker in the 85 Wimbledon Final. I didn't realise he would break Lendl's heart at the tournament on more than one occasion, so much that I would grow to detest him. I like him now though, funnily enough.

Nadal over Dimitrov (and Fed) at AO17 - Nadal was my default go-to favorite after Djokovic and my few other favs were out. I rewatched it recently for the first time since it happened and found myself going hard for Grigor. He deserved that lone Slam.

I supported Federer in the W2019 semifinal against Nadal as I wanted him to get a beating from Djokovic in the final. Novak was bitterly disappointing with his passive play in the final which almost let Federer sneak away with the trophy.

I usually want the player who I think is playing a higher quality of tennis during most of a match to win the match. For most of the last decade, it has typically meant supporting Djokovic.

I'm glad you see the light  I was trying to tell yall who the real enemy was.

Your a Fed fan and that would keep it 20/20/20 instead of 21/20/19
No I would still change it because like I said, that match gave rise to Novak. Without that tournament he might be on way less than 20 and Fed could be on more than 20. So would Nadal, but I can live with that.

Hard question because I couldn't think of anything off the top. And I'm looking at matches where I cheered for the winner.

Like for 2002 USO I guess I'm more ok with Pete winning it than I was in 02, and wouldn't have been upset now if Hewitt won 05 AO.

But that's it for Slam Finals. Would be more apt for SFs. Maybe 2015 USO see if Stan does better against Novak than Fed did, or 2003 Wimbledon Roddick over Fed.

Federer Wawrinka RG15 QF. Federer losing was nice at the time but obviously now i would've preferred to see another Djokovic vs Federer (who was starting to enter peak level) 2015 final.

I've never supported a certain player and then changed my mind later on (as far as my memory goes). On the other hand, I never liked Sampras when he was playing. Now I'm his biggest fan!

Basically every Sampras Agassi match I watched it at least the ones Agassi won. Was a big fan back then but now I like Sampras way more.
