Switching from an Ezone 98 by sponsorship

I have been using ezone 98 custom to 12.2 Oz. But I got a chance to get a small ambassadorship/sponsorship program with either Head or Babolat. What is the closest racquet? Head instinct or babolat pure drive/strike?

Try the Babolat origin

I think I tried the Radical but the rectangular grip I can't get used to unless I take it for a while I suppose.

Strike Tour or regular Strike?

Regular 98 16x19. I haven’t played with a Tour but I’ve played with both the regular Strike and the regular EZone 98 and although they aren’t super similar sticks (the EZ has a more connected feel, the Strike a little more plasticky and muted), they do have comparable power and control and spin, and the weight isn’t far apart.

I'll have to demo this again. Also hi TennComm
hi lulo. new Rads have the normal Head grip, which is the same as the Extremes or Gravities, but not the same rectangular as found on the Prestige.

Edit: prestige’s have the same grip as the rest of the Head racquets now too

Radical was first racquet that came to my mind but the standard length Solinco White out 18x20 would be another.

Another vote for the Radical MP (although the feel is different), but I'm not sure I agree on the Pure Strike 16x19. My memory of the PS16x19 is that it has a higher launch angle and a very different personality. For whatever it's worth, I met a pro who switched from Yonex -> Babolat for sponsorship reasons, and he moved from the EZ98 to the Pure Drive VS (both customized). As another purely anecdotal data point, I find that players who appreciate the EZ98 often appreciate the Gravity Pro, even though they're very different from a specs perspective.

I'll shall try both strike and radical then. Any others?
A lot of the Babolat’s have a lot more weight at 3 and 9 compared to your EZONE, so I’m not sure they will work as well as Head. On paper, the Aero 98 seems good but it’s quite clubby. The Pure Drive VS would have been great I think, not sure how things have changed going to the Aero 98.

I’d also look at the Extreme Tour if you want more lift on the ball compared to the Radical.

I have not try the pure drive vs, but long ago I liked the pure control tour also before the ezones. Never tried the extreme tour, but is the instinct not good?

How close is the radical to the white out? I actually have the 16x19
They are both great all court racquets that do everything well. They’re similar in specs, the Radical is controlled for a 16x19 & the White Out 18x20 but doesn’t play like it. The White Out is getting a lot of talk as raquet of year.

My club had a level 1 18 under boys tournament this past weekend. These are the blue chippers, some already sponsored. All of them wearing the college gear of where they’re going. UCLA, Texas, Georgia, USC….The Head Radical was the prominent racquet & the Aero 9& probably 2nd.

Instinct is extinct! They’re the Boom now. But Boom Pro is too low powered compared to the EZone

Pure Aero 98 probably worth a look and I believe all Head frames have the same regular handle now

Pretty sure that's incorrect. All current Head silos and models therein use the more square TK-82S pallet, except for classic re-issues such as the PT 2.0 and PC 2.0, which use the more rectangular TK-82. Paging @dr325i to confirm.

@lulo - Besides the Rad MP and regular Strike 16x19, I'd give the Pure Drive 98 a try. If you have that swatty Fognini mechanic about your swing, which tends to benefit from a more neck-dominant mass distribution and control point, it could be a better fit for you than either the Rad or Strike. That said, it is quite firm, so IMHO you don't want too harsh a string bed, and I would customize to boost recoil weight up to an adequate level for your height (per @Brando's table: link), to ensure there's enough comfort (plus other optimal swing characteristics).

Hope that helps.

disagreeing with the last statement. Power level is at least the same or even higher with the Boom Pro. And good depth is way easier with the BP due to the higher launch angle. The BP has higher stiffness and more open string pattern after all.
Btw here is a match-up between Boom Pro and Ezone 98 DR

Correct. ALL new Heads (except the 2.0 releases of the PC2.0 and PT2.0) have the TK82S pallets.

I also play with a leaded up EZ98 and have been enjoying the Tecnifibre ISO 305. To me, it's a more controlled, less muted, and more head heavy EZ98. Definitely give it a try.

Unfortunately, it has the old Head rectangular grip shape. But you get used to it.

edit: Just realized you only can do Head or Babolat.

Tried everything that everyone recommended.

So far:

Pure strike- some odd reason not enough power
Pure drive vs - probably my fav
Pure drive- very enjoyable too, but afraid of having arm problems
Radical MP- great but cannot get used to the rectangular grip
Extreme tour/ extreme - also enjoyable

Depends where you plan to exercise your ambassadorship. Head Boom Jr or Babolat EVO Aero Pink.
