Target moisture wicking stuff is pretty good

Target has a sale on their activewear, I recommend that if you don't want to spend too much money on moisture wicking clothing like me, you should go there and check their stuff out. I spent 40 dollars on 4 different items, 2 shorts, a shirt and a sleeveless top. The shorts are very light and breathable with deep pockets and the shirts are simple and look good. Around 9.99 for each

Nothing wrong with your way, but I can spend $40-50 to get 4 name brand items (Nike and adidias mostly) shopping at outlets/sales at sporting goods stores, Ross, Marshalls. ect.

True, but I'm a short dude, and most of the really quality stuff is larger. But I have found some gems at marshalls/ross/tjmax, just gotta look around i guess. Outlet stores are good too, but they're still around 20-15 for something decent.

If you want a plain, solid colour t-shirt, Hanes sells a twin-pack of wicking t-shirts or boxer-briefs under $10. Runs a bit small, tight though. Just remember the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat.

and i agree about the outlet stores... adidas anyway... there arent really THAT cheap... personally i thought marshalls had a better selection/price than the adidas outlet i went to. but then again.... you gotta keep checking!

im not shootermcmarco, but i have a shirt and pair of shorts from the target brand. it's actually made by Champion and their athletic stuff is called C9. it's been discussed on these forums before, but the reason why they are cheaper is because they're thinner, lighter, and the material isnt as dense as drifit. there is only one logo on both my shorts and shirt. the shirt is very thin and extremely light...weighs almost nothing. great at moisture wicking (because it's not as dense as the drifit shirts) but it's so light that if you jump, the bottom of your shirt will end up above your head.

i really like the shorts though. they're not too functional for tennis since they dont have pockets, but they're very thin and very light...so it's really good for playing sports on hot days. it doesnt feel like it's weighing you down or it doesnt get in the way of your leg when you're sweating.

if you go to target, they actually have different shirts and shorts made from different material. some of the C9 stuff is more cotton than polyester, and the other way around. so if you do decide to get stuff at target, just watch out for that...make sure you don't get the cotton ones (unless you want to of course). the shirts and shorts i have are more polyester, since i have plenty of cotton shirts that get in the way when i sweat. if you really need me to, i will post pics of my shirt and shorts

EDIT: if you go to target.com, you can see their lineup of C9 clothing. it seems they actually do have some shorts w/ pockets in them. for the record, mine are the mesh ones.

Unless you are a high level player- you look like a poser if you are always wearing the latest tennis clothes (with the exception being shoes)- IMO.

Nothing worse than seeing a club level player dressed head to toe in matching the newest gear looking pro with poor form strokes and serve.

I think it really is store dependent. Some Marshalls have adidas stuff and even Fila and Prince, but others don't. Same with Ross. At outlets you really have to wait for a sale not their regular prices. I got Nike gear for under $10 there before.

The Champion Duo Dry shirts and shorts are really nice...right up there with the Nike dri-fit stuff I have. I did have to go up a size in the shirt to get the fit like the Nike stuff but it is not a bad buy.

Yah about 80% time you go in, there's nothing worth buying. But every so often you get complete gems- Nike Sphere polos for $12 for example.

I honestly don't know many, if any, good tennis players who normally dress in the latest tennis fashions as discussed in this thread. In tournament play some players might don a bit of dress up but most go for comfort and function over being a fashion bug...they let their game speak. My experience is that the moisture-whicking tennis shirts are more a triumph of marketing to young folks than a product advantage. I play in very hot and humid conditions and you can beat the advertised advantages of the branded tennis shirts for much less $s with shirts from Russell, Champion, Brooks,etc. When you buy your own clothes you quickly discern what works and what is marketing hype. I'm associated with numbers of good tennis players and appearing on court dressed in what is sold as the latest and greatest in tennis fashions would be viewed as a mark of "a great pretender" ...which is often the case.

But you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what hot, wet, and sweaty means. Horror. i've always gone out in normal attire... cotton shirts... sports shorts with pockets... i bought one adidas shirt on here for $15 to give it a try, and i loved it... it was really light and doesn't get bogged down with sweat. I bought another shirt in marshalls.. and a pair of shorts. i admit that shorts dont really make much difference to me.... but the shirts really feel nice. for $15.. it's not like normal shirts are that much less either..

I will agree the Target C9 clothes look good and have considered buying some. I also highkly recommend the C9 socks at Target. I have both the ankle and crew and they are great.

I peel off a red 7 buck sticker and put it over another sticker.

I remember doing that at Nordstrom Rack, only with shoes. The vapors I found were selling for 49.99. So I found a pair DC Shoes, took the 39.99 sticker and placed it on top of the stick on the vapors. Excellent 10 dollar discount. :mrgreen:

To generalize players who choose to buy the name brand stuff rather than off-brand as "posers" is the same as generalizing the people who buy off-brand as "cheap".

If you're happy buying athletic gear from Target or Champion, great! I have some of it too. I also buy stuff from Adidas because I like the way it looks or feels and I don't mind spending the extra money for it.

If function always took precedence over form, then everyone would be wearing off-brand everything but they don't.
